Help, DVD Drive won't recognize a disc is inserted

I've got a G75 and was burning a few DVDs, put the next one in and I got a dialog box saying "Insert a Disc". I thought maybe the dvd was bad, so I tossed it, inserted another one and the drive didn't recognize that there was a dvd in there. I tried with CDs, and previously burnt dvds that were fine. My DVD just can't recognize that there are discs in it.

Just out of the blue no change in system settings, from one to the next.

Any ideas? Where can I download drivers to reinstall? I couldn't find them on the asus website.

Ah I remember having this issue with an older laptop. Do you have a yellow exclamation mark icon in device manger? it will tell you what issue code you have before we go further. Here are the codes:

This is the solution to fix the UpperFilters and LowerFilters Registry Values on the CD\DVD drive.

Edit: I Just read the old thread you have inserted and you positively sure that you have done this step properly? It might be a windows update or drivers fail, go to system restore and go back where your laptop was stable. I just researched that iTunes can also cause this problem try uninstalling iTunes if you have it.

Everything appears fine on the device manager:


The DVD Drive appears on "My Computer" normally as well. Just doesn't recognize when CD or a DVD is inserted (blank or written).

OK just do the steps above that I have provided it will reset your drive, if you have already done this step try running in safe mode. If the problem still persist in safe mode try opening your laptop and make sure the dvd drive is connected properly or try to disconnect it and put the cables back in properly.

The other problem also might be iTunes that I've been hearing that also may cause this to happen, uninstall it. I will try to further investigate more into this. The steps from the beginning have should fixed it and if not hopefully is still an software issue. You might try to do an Clear CMOS or load default settings on BIOS. Its also might help if you insert the disk, go into Event viewer:

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools

Now just check the corrupted logs of that time when you inserted the disk or when it booted to windows.
