Help - Boot cycling ROG Maximus VI Hero

Skwerlii

So I recently put together a new system... Since the build, I have been having some issues with instability (mainly with power.)
Most of my boots are plagued with no POST or randomly losing power while performing hardware checks and cycling on and off. However, once it does get past POST stage (often by turning the power supply off, waiting a few seconds for board lights to turn off, turning the power supply on) it will run well. This includes recovering from sleep.

I thought this may have all been caused by my power supply, but I have since replaced it and still have the problems.

On occasion, I have been halted by an "overclock failed" error prodding me to change my settings in UEFI. When this error pops up, I am able to boot fine without changing any settings.

Things I have tried:
Turning c-states off (problem persists and I would like to have these on anyway)
Manually keying RAM timing/speed/etc
XMP for RAM
Auto settings
Optimized defaults.
and the new power supply.

specs:
ROG Maximus Hero VI
i7 4770k (stock clock)
G.Skill Ripjaws 4x2gb 1600mhz
EVGA GTX770 4gb FTW
Samsung 840 Pro 120Gb boot drive
2TB WD storage drive (SATA 3)
2x 500gb Seagate storage drives for game installs and such (SATA 2)
was powered by an old OCZ ModXStream 700 Pro, now by a Seasonic X-850

If anyone has any suggestions on what is going on, I would greatly appreciate it...
Thank you.

Hi Skwerlii, Welcome to the ROG forum. When you get the overclock failed, is it giving any other kind of message?

I'm sorry for the late reply... Wasn't able to mess with much this week....

To a less common degree, I saw a couple of "Power OK!" errors... But these were few and far between in contrast to the overclocking errors that happened every boot, it seemed.

This weekend I haven't seen either and it's been able to POST and boot without any issue... I haven't changed anything so I don't expect that to remain the case.
Thank you for your response.

Hey no problem skwerlii. Are you overclocking? If you are it sounds like your machine is not fully stable. If it starts the cycling again turn off your machine and press the clear cmos button for a slow count of 3.

Have you been to the BIOS page which relates to which OS you are using and adjusted it to work in compatibility for Windows, 8.1...

I take it you got the SATA cables connected to the correct drives.

Overclock failed is very often a sign the RAM is not happy...as are the sudden shutdowns etc. What exact RAM have you got...one kit or two of the same....how are you running it manual or XMP.

I would say remove all but one stick and see if your problems clear up...maybe try one or two different sticks singly this way.

Maybe memtest86+ the memory at BIOS defaults one kit at a time and at XMP one kit at a time...

Yeah, I would start with the memtest86+... bad RAM will corrupt the OS soon or later...

DO it first on BIOS defaults, then XMP - if you have two "identical" kits then try them separately with XMP...
