HDD Slowing boot time

ChaoticTheory

I finally have my computer up and running. Everything is going well, stick with stock settings at the moment (to much time invested in other boards that I needed to just get up and running for now.) Ended up using the Windows 8.1 preview, and pretty impressed so far, boots quite nicely.

That, is, until I connected my HDD. I have 3 SSD drives (Samsung 840 Pro, 256GB with OS and 128GB with files both on Intel SATA3 ports, and 128GB scratch/misc on Inte SATA2 port (avoiding ASM ports so I could disable them and skip the bootup time). I went to connect my 1 TB Seagate Barracuda LP to use as a backup drive to one of the Intel SATA2 ports and my boot time jumped to 6 MINUTES! Unplug it, back down to 30 seconds (full reboot to fully loaded in Windows, including PIN entry).

If I plug the same drive in to an external USB port using a external drive bay it works fine.

Specs are as in my signature, only thing to note is I do have the Obsidian 800D case, with all the drives in the hot swap bays.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

That is certainly odd, could you confirm what drivers you have installed at present please.

Thanks for asking HVM, I used all updated drivers direct from Intel's site. I actually got it figured out last night. I tried using a different port and a different cord, both with the same result. So then I removed it from the hot swap bay and connected it to the original port using the original cord, and "Presto"! Everything works just fine. So I removed the hotswap board and have everything hooked up directly at the moment and it is booting fine. It is weird, since it seemed to work fine to begin with (at least the drive was getting detected) and then after installing Windows 8 just the HDD wasn't being read correctly.

I will be contacting Corsair to see if they know of the issue or if they can just replace the board.

Thanks again!

These hot swap bays are a source of continual problems. Glad you got it sorted out.
