FX 8150 overclocking

This is my first time building a computer and messing around with overclocking. First thing I used was Asus auto tune and the system was running fairly solid when gaming at 4.2 GHz. I have not installed any type of stress test software. I started reading that you could overclock to around 4.6 with air cooling. I have a Corsair H100 with a push-pull setup. I figured I could easily get the max air overclock of 4.6 with my cooler setup. Following the instructions of a website I went into bios and disabled and adjusted step by step until I got 4.7GHz. Windows locked up every other boot. I backed down to 4.6,4.5,4.4. I could not find any stable speeds and just decide to restore default settings and go back to auto tune. Since then I have been unable to auto tune past 3.8 or 4 which is now crashing with anything I try to do. It seems lke I should be getting higher speeds with auto tune. Why is it now unstable at 4?

My advice is simple.

Reset your system. Clear CMOS and start again.

Also there is a rather nifty new BIOS out I understand. 1102 I understand is a peach.
