Frequency drops

Hello,
been a while since last visit to these forums,
Updated my bios (rampage V extreme) to latest version.
I did not want to go through the overclocing testing all over again so I used the software aisuite dip5 to do it.
All seems good, even got much better results now, and all seems stable.

Now my question:
I notice the processor changing from 2100 mhz to 4500 mhz all the time, like the frequency drops and rises every 10 seconds or so. Should I be worried with this?, is it normal?

It may be because of your Power Management selection in OS. Balanced: will reduce the frequency when in idle; High: will keep the frequency where you set it. Also, there may be some settings checked in BIOS related to power saving features.

You could run some stress-testing application to see where the CPU frequency is, if it is where you set it - don't worry, it is normal!

yes you may be right, only I thought that kind of management would be more persistent, like when dropping consumption it would stay low until some app or game would start. But the way it is working is dropping and rising in a permanent loop, up and down, up and down, about 20-30 times a minute. If it is of no harm ill just let it be...

Run a stress-test to see if it sticks on the highest value...
Also, right after you turn on your pc, there will be a lot of up-down jumpings because of things happening in the background - that's normal

It's called Speedstep and it's actually a feature of the CPU. As the load varies the CPU ramps up and down speed between idle and turbo value and at the same time, the voltage is adjusted to suit the different load states. Since the PC is never really idle (lots of background processes etc.) you see the frequency jumping around and voltage going up and down in tandem...
