Fixing Haswell and Ivy Bridge CPU temps

I ran across this video on youtube and was wondering if any of you guys used this fix. I have the sandy bridge-e cpu i7 all cores read different temps, example I'll run InterBurn test at high core 0 reads-78c core 1-59 core 2-71 core 3-67 core 4-62 core 5-72. Is this variation in cpu core temps normal.

I would not delid a IVY-E

I have core 3 a good 12'c than my other cores.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

You won't be able to delid your Sandy as the top plate is soldered on. The Ivy's (and Haswell's I guess) have some sort of cheap rubber glue that holds the top plate on instead, which would allow someone to delid them.

I'm surprised that you are having temp troubles with a Sandy, those CPU's should be pretty sturdy temp wise. Ivy's on the other hand have cheap thermal paste underneath the lid which is why people are deliding them and reapplying high quality paste to them. Some are even running cooling blocks on the delided CPU! Risky but cool if you manage to not break it lol.

Google, Ivy delid hammer and vice...seems to be safer then the razor blade method.

I was reading and watching youtube videos on the delid hammer and vice method for quiet some time now. My personal conclusion is, i won't do it, although the temparature fall is super nice. I wouldn't say I am not a handy person, but too much risk involved to actually ruin my 330 Dollar processor. My temps @4.5Ghz @1.35v - 75° max peak at RB2 100% load are not bad either for my H100i.

Aswell I think the fail rate of deliding is way higher than you read about in the interwebs. Of course, I mean who would post that they just ruined their processor deliding it, I would not either since i would be pretty ashamed lol.

If you want to do it, go for the hammer and vice method!

Cheers

I've delidded my i7-3770k with a hammer and a vice. Dropped 10 degrees celcius, and now running 4.5 GHz on air, Prime-temperatures at 70 max.
