Did you mean:

Finally made it to 4.8 GHz

Well after my last CPU just up and died overnight, I lashed out and bought a new 3770K.

Second run of Realbench V2 I outdid any other score I have had in the past.

The stress test handled 4.8 GHz, the temps did not get above 90 deg, but my ambient is a little high at the moment, sitting on about 27 deg C with 90% humidity. Very stormy tropical weather.

I just have to experiment lowering my voltage a bit. I have it set on 1.35 v.

I am stoked.

Thanks to all you guys that tried to help, but the CPU will have to go to that special place, or I could try and delid it for practice.

Now for a question, would a custom cooling system be of any benefit to me?

Happy to hear that you achieved the next step... however, can not pass over that 90C... - mate, that is very very high!!!

You said that your ambient is high, but do not run that CPU too much over 70-75C if you want it to last longer... that is meaning during your regular usage... If you want OC'ing, then better wait for cooler weather...

Delidding the 3770ks did showed a big decrease of the temps. In the same time, also is showing a much reduced life span - specially if you're using it with the cooler directly on the die, without replacing the IHS (with changed TIM).

Proper custom water-cooling would perhaps lower your temps even more. You just have to know that is a money trap - once you begin to do custom loops, you won't be able to stop... you will find something to buy all the time... But it is a great fun!

Mate I don't know whether to trust delidding, I heard one wrong move and your CPU is screwed. As for getting over 90, I have never let it get that high and it only really hits high 80's under 100% load, and there are not a lot reasons why I would be doing that.
I dropped the voltage by .01 and the temp did not go past 80, my ambient was 22 deg though (aircon).

For now I am happy I made it to 4.8 GHz and as far as custom water, well it's about the challenge isn't it. One day when I have the coin I will give it a go.

Delidding has it's risk for sure! It can screw up your CPU during the process or after... it is something you have to decide...

I think that delidding is really a risk that you personally have to be comfortable with. In my view there is no need as I know of no application that can not run at very acceptable performance levels with at stock. So with your current OC being quite good and the temps are very manageable - why do it?
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Yay! nice one JimmyH:D.

De-lidding? I wouldn't think twice if you are a dab hand at DIY etc. If you're all fingers and thumbs and have a history of nasty injuries while chopping onions for example then maybe give it a miss.

Custom cooling would definitely help...if you got a 1080 rad or something like that in an air conditioned room you could run your OCing at much happier temps...
