Hello all,
Similar to what other users have reported, but I wanted to make my own thread as my experience is a bit nuanced.
Specs:
PRIME x870-P Wifi
9800X3D
Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL30 (CMK32GX5M2B6000Z30) – on the QVL for this board and the 9000 series chips
WD_Black SN850X Gen 4 PCIe m.2 SSD – in the primary/top gen 5 slot
RTX 3090
When I enable EXPO, my PC boots no problem and is stable the whole time, including during gaming.
However, if I shut my PC down, the next day, it won’t post. The power LED blinks very quickly, which ASUS indicates is a DRAM issue.
So I clear CMOS using the jumpers on the motherboard, and after the memory retrains, I can get back into BIOS and Windows no problem.
After some more testing, I got into a different scenario: with EXPO enabled, I go to cold start the PC and the aforementioned quick flashing of the power LED starts. I clear the CMOS, boot, and wait for memory retraining. But instead of posting this time, the LED starts blinking very slowly (for 5 seconds), which ASUS indicates is a boot device issue.
Great.
So I remove the CMOS battery, wait 10 minutes, boot, retrain, and thankfully get right into BIOS.
Very odd.
EXPO is now disabled and I will not be turning it back on. With the default timings, I cold started the computer yesterday and today and it booted up no problem.
There definitely seems to be an issue with this board, EXPO, and the boot phase, as others have reported.
