I'm experiencing an annoying issue on my G75VW (Windows 7 Ult. 64-bit). On every open or save file operation in every application that I use, the DVD drive attempts to spin up, even though the drive is empty. I've investigated options for dealing with this, such as defining a group policy to deny access to the drive, or using a script to temporarily disable the device, or manually disabling it using the Device Manager. These options are either too extreme, are only temporary (the drive seems to re-enable itself randomly) or just don't work well enough to be convenient.
