Down Clocking when idle 3570k?

Hi!

I used the awesome guide posted by ROG on OCing the MVG and the i53570k combo and it worked like a charm.

I decided that I didn't need the extra heat in my system and so I set the multiplyer at 42 and have been stable at 4,2ghz at 1,12v for several days now.

my question is: i have EIST enabled but my system never throttles down when idle. Have I missed something or is it always throttled up?

edit: correctly changed the title

Welcome, Lolgun, to the ROG Forum!

I think you mean the natural down-clocking when the power saving features are on... fortunately that's not throttling... 🙂 Throttling will happen when you reach to high temps on CPU and/or VRMs...

So, as first question, what is your power plan setting in OS? If it's "high performance", it won't let your CPU to down-clock...

Zka17 - ah, sorry about the use of the wrong term.

Yes - I was referring to down-clocking when idle. You are correct that my power plan settings are at "high performance": I was eliminating the shut down that would occur when the PC was idle.

So if I want to down clock when idle (to be power efficient since the family mostly uses the PC to surf and stream, otherwise I do some video encoding/editing and gaming where I want the extra performance) where should I change these settings?

Or is it best to just live with it and the extra power consumed? I'm not concerned about temps since everything is WC'd, I'm just trying to get the extra performance when needed.

Cheers!

There should be some option in Windows Power Plan settings... just hit the start menu and type Power Plan in that search thing...

Yeah you can edit the power plan...."change advanced power settings" look for "processor power mangement" ...."minimum processor state" it will be 100% at the moment change it to 10%..

awesome, thanks for the help guys. That was it, I set it to 10% and now it's down-clocking.
