Did I screw up legacy vs EUFI

I have a maximus VII hero motherboard . I redid my system a few weeks ago and just now I am realizing that I may have made a mistake in not having the bios mode in UEFI.

I am totally new to UEFI. What setting in the bios needs to be check and I guess i would have to reinstall windows ( which i really dont want to do) I could have swore i had the bios set to use both eufi and legacy.

Am i screwing myself booting into legacy bios mode ( as seen under msinf32)

Thank you

Hi Chonduu, I think your MB supports UEFI, However it will require an OS re_install. It's just that UEFI requires the drive to be GPT instead of MBR.

Enabling the UEFI mode requires that all system devices are required to have a UEFI firmware and driver: this includes things like graphics cards, dvd

Under Legacy mode, the BIOS checks and verifies all components and devices during Boot up, This produces a relatively lengthy boot time. However, on the other hand, the UEFI boot allows all devices to be initialized simultaneously, resulting in a relatively faster boot time.

Activating UEFI mode requires installing the OS with this mode pre-enabled in its BIOS.

May help to read this guide; http://rog.asus.com/220572013/rampage-motherboards/rampage-iv-uefi-boot-installation-guide-on-window...
And this; http://rog.asus.com/258532013/raidr-express-ssd/raidr-express-uefi-install-guide/

Windows installation in UEFI mode has four basic requirements:

1. A UEFI enabled platform.
2. A x64 Operating System that supports it.
3. Installing to GPT partitioned disk or RAID array that includes an “EFI System Partition” or ESP for short.
4. Booting the installation media in UEFI mode:

Thanks that helps.. Guess i will make a day of it in the future and reinstall.

Is the biggest change on the boot speed . if that is it I might could live with it since it boots up under a minute anyway.

Thanks for the info ..

It would be worth doing if you were say, upgrading your OS from say W7 to W8.1 and your other hardware devices were UEFI capable. Some Legasy devices cannot be firmware updated.
Really the difference in time taken to boot is not so incredible imo. and more for fanatics.
If you need to know how to install EUFI, Just ask
