Desperate to remove unstable overclock

Just typical... I searched trustpilot as my go-to pc builder ginger 6 didn't offer a skylake system and all reviews pointed to scan... as soon as I ordered my system a flood of negative reviews poured in... I ignored them and waited 3 weeks past my delivery date for my pc. when it arrived it had a few boot problems which I was assured was the ASUS check asking to enter the bios setup and a few black screens that required many presses of the reset or on/ off button to get it to restart (supposedly win 10 problem with readyboot but I doubt that)

just lately I've been getting the BSOD with the clock_watchdog_timeout error... seeking advice has ranged from increase the voltage... to change to a gigabyte mobo or turn off the unstable overclock...

My problem is... scan said do not touch the bios or mobo settings without consulting them.... their website is down. I just want to turn off the unstable o/c

when I enter the bios it says load profile 1 (the default 4Ghz setting) then save profile 2 the 4.6Ghz setting... I just want to remove it. and play for more than an hour without a BSOD

Hi gravy1958 🙂

What motherboard do you have in there..

In BIOS pressing F5 sets optimized defaults....and then F10 is save and exit...should have you running at stock while you sort things out with them....

It's in my pc specs... it's a ranger viii... I should have said that in an URUK or ORC voice from shadow of mordor 😉 "It's the Ranger !"

Ah OK sorry...still not used to looking there yet :o...so as above...F5 and F10 will have you at stock settings until you can contact Scan and give them an earfull

Thanks... I don't know why ASUS advised me not to reset it.

As for Scan, I've sent emails, posted on their twitter and facebook sites and gone through their tech support channel plus tried live chat... all without a reply, I think they're close to going bankrupt it is a similar pattern to the last company I dealt with that folded. I did see them at the EGX gaming convention and all I said was "hi, I bought one of your 3xs systems...". they instantly replied "have you got any problems ?" not "are you enjoying it" or "isn't it great"... most odd.

I like your Spec description its better than mine 🙂

Heh...yeah...sad to read

ASUS probably said that since Scan say not to do anything...warranty stuff etc.

You can either switch the PC off and send it back to them...or take the pragmatic approach and wash your hands of them and learn to make some adjustments yourself (with help here of course)...my only fear would be that they have mixed memory kits in there or some such or that something is actually faulty....

The memory kits are not mixed they're 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black, 3000MHz, CAS 15-17-17-35, 1.35V.
I have an on site warranty which means they repair it in my home if they ever acknowledge me.... just a basic email to say how to remove profile 2 would be nice, and how to reset the voltages.

it's possible they're going to fold and have just shipped faulty components but as they're probably the biggest or one of the top 3 in the country it is unlikely.

Win 10 has been responsible for many problems in the 7 weeks I've owned this system and nvidia may be partly responsible.... they tend to throw out a rogue driver every so often that may "accidentally" overheat cards, prevent fans from speeding up etc... and gently remind people with old gpu's it's time to buy again 😉 the 385.50 has just caused major problems and has a hotfix... that nvidia are keeping quiet. but usually it doesn't affect the latest cards... it's possible that it caused the BSOD.

TBH I'm thinking of buying a new one (not from Scan 🙂 ) with win 7 an x99 MB and dumping my backup pc i5 3570k gtx970 system and making this the backup pc... until win 10 is past it's teething problems and this system is stable.

When you say "they're"...?

You have one single 2x8GB kit on two slots.....or two of those kits..making 32GB on four slots?

If they means two of the "same" then that is a bad start already....
