CPU cache not underclocking/undervolting

Hello,

I am using an Asus Gryphon Z87 motherboard with an Intel i5 4440 CPU.

In the system BIOS, I have set the minimum and maximum CPU cache multipliers at x8 and x33 respectively - equal to the range for the CPU core. The Cache voltage is set to 0.9V. All power saving features are enabled.

I've found however that, according to software monitors (Asus Thermal Radar and Aida64), the voltage across the cache and the frequency of the cache remain constant regardless of CPU loading, power state, or the clock/voltage of the CPU core. The cache is not downclocking/volting at all.

Is there any way to fix this - have I maybe missed something?

Thanks

Odai.

What is there to fix?

There is no need to change any of those settings what so ever. The auto settings for that motherboard and that CPU are all that you need.

Even with auto settings, I found that the voltage/frequency remains fixed regardless of power state or loading.

I did just try to use "offset mode" instead of "manual mode" for the voltage, and that seems to have fixed it. The cache now undervolts/underclocks at idle. The clocks aren't always equal to the core clocks, but tend to remain within 200-300MHz, is this correct behaviour?

If you use manual mode to set the voltage it will remain fixed at that value yes.

offset does allow a dynamic voltage yes.

And yes your CPU is behaving as expected.

One quick question, in OS what is your power plan set to.

I have selected the High Performance power plan, but I've actually modified it to enable all power saving tech. 0% for minimum processor performance, LSPM enabled etc. I just use high performance to get rid of some of the annoying presets on other plans, including screen switching off too frequently.

OK thanks I did wonder and that explains some stuff.

All good I think you are sorted and can now just enjoy your system. 🙂
