Cooler Express 2013 - Review

I purchased a new Cooler Express from FrozenCpu and thought I would give a short review on my experience and performance of this unit. Here's the spec's from Frozencpu.

The Cooler Express 2013 Design Super Single Evaporator CPU Cooling Unit is the all new 2013 model - featuring compatibility with all modern sockets, a simple, single CPU cooler design and extreme cooling (-48°C)!

The unit attaches to the bottom of your case and the evaporator tube snakes through the bottom of your case (after a hole has been added) and mounts directly to the CPU. With temperatures way below freezing, you can overclock your CPU far beyond what is possible even with the best water cooling!

Simplicity and ease of use were incorporated into the new units. These new 2013 units have a modern sleek design and have eliminated the control board which most users found a nuisance. A front power button was incorporated to make powering on the unit easier as well. The compressor is a larger more robust version with a 180W - 200W dissipation rating. Some reviews have seen up to 280W!

Fits All Popular Sockets

**Note: LGA 1156 , LGA 1366, and LGA 2011 Support Now Included with new Upgrade Socket Kit!

My test system:

Rampage IV Black Edition
Intel i7 4930K
16 GB G.Skill TridentX 2400
3x XFX HD 7950
Sandisk X110 series 120 GB SSD
EVGA 750W Gold SuperNova PSU

Using RealBench as my benchmark I managed to overclock my 4930K to 4920 MHz. On Water I was only able to pass RB @ 4700 MHz. I am a bit disappointed at the outcome but with a better sample cpu I know I could do better. Although I haven’t given up on this chip yet as I am still learning this X79 platform. I have booted to windows @ 5200 MHz and have run several benchmarks stable. The Cooler Express drop to a temperature of between -48c to -51c.

Under full load running RB x264 encoding test after about 2 minutes into the test the temperature dropped to -23c. CORE Temp read -5c on all cores 0 load and 24c to 28c @ full load. I don’t think that’s to bad considering I was running @ 1.715V @ 4950 MHz. As I said this is a poor sample. I have about 10 hours on this unit so far. Benching about 2 to 3 hour runs. It’s a bit noisy but not too bad considering what it is. So far I am very happy with it performance. It has a great recovery time. It only takes about a min. to drop to -48c once turned on. Also while benching the unit would only pull down a few degrees centigrade under full load.

One option I liked was it came with the CPU mounting kit that covered most all platforms.

Socket Types: Socket 478 754 775 1155 1156 1366 939 940 AM2 Xeon

I prepped the Motherboard as I would for LN2 to prevent any chance of condensation. Using Art eraser I started with the back of the board.

I cut the Art eraser into small strips to work in tight around the socket area

In conclusion I am very happy with this unit. It performance has surpassed my expectations. I am confidant this unit will bring me many years of benching. Here I was pushing it a bit 🙂

Yes Mean thanks for sharing, sorry that is the most you can get from that chip, I assume with a better chip it would do much better. could you post a wider shot showing the bend from it mounted to the board to the unit. it sounds like about the same amount of noise as a chiller, Zaka, you can probably answer that?

Not yet... my SS took a sick leave... 😞

Hi Menthol
yeah a bit disappointed with this chip. It;s about 17" long. It does say to raise the board so that there is no pulling pressure on the hose. Since the bench I am using is so tall I had to raise the SS unit. Heres a better shot may be.

I see... thanks! If mine (LD Cooling) will continue to blow fuses I will return it and get one like yours...
