Can I not use ASUS ROG USB connection to another PC to update my BIOS and ME?

I need to update the BIOS on my ASUS MAXIMUS VI FORMULA and the only processor I have is the i7-4790k. The board needs a bios update to work with this CPU however that damn bios update isn't really a bios update is more like a Management Engine rewrite since I need to do this in the operating system with another older CPU.

I've watched a lot f videos about these "wonderful" ASUS features and one of them said something about ASUS ROG USB connect between 2 PC's. Controlling and modifying the BIOS and settings of one motherboard through another PC.

I don't have access to any old CPU, it's friday evening and nothing is open for the next 2 days and frankly this is an ASUS screw up for not letting their customers know the parts they are willing to buy aren't compatible. So I'm curious about this ASUS ROG USB connect between two computers. Is this just as good as the "magical BIOS FLASH" which doesn't work at all for my situation?

My mobo is ASUS MAXIMUS VI FORMULA

Sorry to disappoint. While ROG Connect will change some BIOS clock and voltage settings via a second computer, it cannot manage a BIOS update let alone the ME update we need for the 4790K.

God damn it! So what are my options here, how did you do it then?

What happens if I plug my 4790k into this mobo without the ME re-write and Bios update? Any chance of damaging components in my PC?

I upgraded this M6F while it still had a 4770K installed. This thread goes into the process which worked for me. The thread also has a lot of discussion about other possibilities, most of which don't work. Many users in the position of a new M6F and only a 4790K have the same problem.

According to reports, trying a 4790K without the ME upgrade will not boot. I think some choices are:

1. Return the M6F and get a Maximus VII, either Hero or Gene now, or you could wait a couple of weeks for the Formula to become available.
2. Borrow a non-refresh Haswell to get into Windows and run the update. That could be ANY CPU that uses the LGA-1150 socket - Pentium or Celeron even as long as it is one of the original Haswell models rather than a Haswell Refresh.
3. Have a computer repair shop do the upgrade using one of their testing CPUs.

I know this isn't much help, but it's what I can offer.

If only I had anyone living in Haddington or close to me to help me do this I would be ecstatic right now. I would seriously buy a couple of drinks, hell even make them cocktails all night with the tons of stuff I got in my home bar for the guy who ever he or she might be. I just simply don't know anyone who can borrow me an LGA socket CPU for about 1 hour so I can upgrade.

LOL - I work too much and have little time to socialise in real life. All my friends are on line and from other countries

The linked thread seems to have gone past me. I'm updated now. Check post #60. I think it applies.
