BIOS Update Question

Hey all, first time here hoping to get an answer to what I imagine is a pretty easy question.

In a few days I'll be putting together my new build (4670k in a Maximus VI Hero). I plan on overclocking and had a couple questions in regards to the BIOS.

I read a lot of people say to not update BIOS if you aren't having issues, but then there are people that say if you are going to overlock you should have the most up-to-date BIOS... I'm not sure which train on though I should be following here.

If I do decide to do a BIOS update, which is the best way to do it? Windows utility? BIOS utility? Flashback? Is there anything specific I need to know about doing any of the methods?

Will my CPU even work in the board without a BIOS update? According to http://rog.asus.com/304032014/asus-gaming-motherboards/asus-announces-bios-updates-for-new-4th-gener... I will have to flash the BIOS for sure, won't I?

I'm just trying to cover my bases and not brick my board (although I read that you can always use flashback to fix a brick if it does happen, is this true?) I've read a lot of scary stuff in regards to flashing BIOS so I was hoping for some reassurance. Thanks everyone for the help with this.

The 4670K will work with whatever version UEFI may be on the board when received. The info you linked to is for support of CPUs (Haswell refresh) that have not been released yet. I normally flash using EZ Flash from within the UEFI and the USB port spec'd for USB BIOS Flashback.

That's a false statement! There are special version of BIOS for almost every board for OC'ing - but then you're talking extreme OC'ing/extreme cooling... certainly not 24/7 usage...

I would advise to start with what you have, learn your motherboard and it's BIOS and when you will reach the limits, then you can think about flashing the BIOS - if everything is stable and works correctly, of course... if you have some trouble (not OC-related), then you may need to flash...
