Bios 3016 just bricked my board. z170 pro gaming

Not sure what to make of this. I was swapping out a 6600k for a 7700k, which should have been a simple enough task, now I get no signal.

Was running 1206, updated to 3016 with ez flash, booted into the os, surfed around, then shut down to swap chips. At first the cpu fans would not spin and there was no signal, so I pulled the battery for a few, then started it and at least the cpu fans spun up, as did everything else, but no signal.

Tried 1 stick of ram in every slot, same thing, no signal. I've pulled the battery several times but nothing seems to work.

Tired of the hassle I put back in the 6600k and now it to is exhibiting the same behavior. Again, pulled battery, 1 stick in all slots, but nothing.

wtf?

Help please.

EDIT

Also, this entire time none of my input devices are lighting up.

If the BIOS chip is bricked, you can either:
1. Buy a chip from a third party seller.
2. Buy a chip from the ASUS eStore.
3. Buy a BIOS programmer and reprogram it yourself.
4. RMA the motherboard.

Hi Chino,

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and picked up a Prime Z270 today, so... hurry up with a 7700k guide please. 🙂 Need to crack 5GHz.

I'll probably rma the 170.

Bios flashback
It is so beyond easy and takes about 90 seconds. It is for situations like these tho it's the only way I do bios flashes at all now. Seriously try it.

Are they trolls? They were like "lets not make bios flashback so we can laugh and get dozen of returns for RMA" 😄

Yes they are. Just look at their z270 lineup. It explains everything. 300-400$ boards with 8 phases. Garbage

I found a guide to flashback on z170: http://overclocking.guide/flash-back-older-bios-asus-z170/

This will help to solve the error “selected file is not a proper BIOS”.

But use at your own risk.

That procedure only works if you have a working BIOS chip because the flash process takes place inside the OS.
