BlizzCon 2011 - Our first stop at BlizzCon 2011 was at the ASUS booth where we saw a number of cool new Republic of Gamers (ROG) products.

The one that got our attention the most was the ASUS X79 demo system. We met up with Mark from Intel who was kind enough to give us a run down on the system and what it will offer.

Or you can watch the video of the preview here:

So I assume it's not just meant to replace the server/workstation X58 platform which means it will be good for gaming since there is an ROG edition coming soon.

Does it support PCI-E 3.0? What memory speeds are supported and what voltage memory is best?
New ROG PC built Nov 2011:
Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z
Intel Core I5-2500K
(2) EVGA GTX 580 Superclocked in SLI
Corsair 600T
Corsair H100 Liquid CPU Cooling
Corsair AX1200 PSU
Corsair Force 3 128GB SSD for boot drive
8GB Red Corsair Vengeance @ 1600 Mhz 9-9-9-24
1.5 TB Western Digital Caviar Black
Asus 12x Blu-Ray Writer

Built my first PC at age 12, Pentium III @ 450 Mhz.

Tweaktown has pics and a sneak preview of it, there's tons of pics all over the net now.

Expansion slots include four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (red), of which two are x16-capable, and all are x8 capable, one PCI-Express 2.0 x4 (black, wired to the PCH), and an x1 slot. Storage connectivity includes four each of SATA 6 Gb/s (red) and SATA 3 Gb/s (black), and one eSATA, and a power-eSATA (unknown datarate). There are eight USB 3.0 ports (four each on the rear panel and front-panel headers). Surprisingly, there's only one gigabit Ethernet connection, the other connectivity option is Bluetooth, which plays a key role in some of the ROG-exclusive features such as ROG Connect. For once, ASUS did away with the Creative X-Fi soft-layer for its audio and the solution is pure Realtek ALC898 8+2 channel HDA codec (with Realtek driver).

There's a thing above that SATA ports that's called the SUBZERO Sense which monitors the temperature of your board. There's a Key that looks like it plugs into a monitor port to display OC details, the key is call the OC Key. It Features a X-SOCKET which allows you to remove the standard LGA2011 mounting bracket and backplate to put on a slimmer backplate to allow older 1366 mounting of older coolers. Another features is the VGA Hotwire looks like it allows you to safely OC the video voltages or something.

In one of the screenshots I've seen, it also looks like ASUS is finally is packing a BLACK SLi cable instead of their standard brown/orange ugly SLi cables that they've been doing for years 😄

Can you please give me info about the formfactor for this board as i am planning to buy this board in my new rig and it needs to fit my current chassi.

Looking at the mounting holes on the board it's the same size of the Rampage III Series boards, it's your Extended ATX, it's wider board but will fit in most standard gaming cases for sure.

i think the longer i sit and stare at this board it seems lacking. the R3E looked awesome. but these heatsinks dont scream "my k/d is 1:5 and i need to compensate by spending way to much to make me think that things are going to get better." These are subtle like a furbie. But we all know one day when electronics take over the world that those furbies will bite your face off.

HOW DO YOU USE THE EXTRA POWER 4 PIN THING? DO U USE A 8 PIN WIRE FROM THE PSU AND ONLY USE ONE SIDE OF IT?............. NOT TALKING ABOUT THE 6 PIN PCI HOOKUP.

If it will fit I guess you could use one side of it. The 4 pin connector is a separate connector that many PSU's have, especially older ones. If yours doesn't have it then I just wouldn't try to use it.
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

Just a preview of what you get in the box.
I'm LOVING the new SLi and Crossfire cables and connectors. Their all black and their labeled with the ROG Logo and Republic of Gamers text all over them. Looking real sweet, it comes with a 4Way SLi connector too >.<

I can't wait for this board.

oh boy what a nice board is this! I do love all the rog logo/text (north bridge) & we've got 8 slots for the ram?! Also realy like the south bridge with the cooler! Pci-E 3.0 for the mars 3 perheps :D?! Will take a look @ the video later, for more details...

It is such addictive this nice rog boards, you just want change you rig anytime, but as for know i will stick to my rig, with the Corssair Formula 4 Extreme, for a few years:cool:
