Asus Rampage IV Black Edition - RAM slots reporting 'Abnormal'

Hey

I've got an Asus Rampage IV Black edition that randomly reports abnormal on all slots except B1. C1, C2, D1 and D2 *always* report abnormal, slots A1 and A2 report abnormal about 75% of the time, and B2 reports abnormal about 50% of the time. I haven't yet seen B1 failing.

This results in Windows reporting anywhere from 4GB to 16GB on any given boot. CPU-Z always reports 32GB.

I'm using two sets of Kingston HyperX sticks with the following product code: KHX24C11T3K4/16

The problem appears with either, or both of these kits, and also with an older HyperX kit (KHX2133C10D3W1K2/8GB). The exact same pattern of disabled slots shows with 1 through 8 sticks on either of these three kits. If I try to boot with only A1, the PC rarely even posts - stuck at error code 53. If I try to boot with one stick on C1 or D1, it never posts.

Something else that I find strange, is that these 2400MHz sticks are always running at 1600MHz - all of them regardless of slot failure.

I've looked at other people with similar problems on this board, and tried to tinker around with the voltage settings in BIOS, to no avail.

As I'm running a water cooling solution with hard acryllic tubing, checking for bent CPU pins will require me to drain the entire system, and demount the tubing, which would take a few hours. Also I wouldn't be able to refill the loops again without ordering more coolant. Therefore I don't wish to do this unless it is literally the last step before an RMA.

I'm running two GTX 780s, a Revodrive 3 x2, and an Intel i7-4930K.

Any ideas? Pointers to what exactly I should tinker with in BIOS? If bent pins is the issue, is this fixable? Will I eventually still be able to RMA?

Thank you

Greetings TheNjaa,

That is an amazing build! You seem to have a talent for custom builds and I appreciate the picture of your setup!

Back on topic, haha, kkn is correct about mix matching RAM kits. Although they still may work, more than likely, there will be incompatibility issues with this type of arrangement. If you can, make sure to use the same RAM kits. That said, I think the motherboard is defective, especially after trying just one RAM chip and it still didn't POST. Confirm that your RAM is working and contact me back through email. I can help with your RMA request. Thanks!

Regards,

Mark

on intel boards theres a "rule" that you should NOT mix diffrent ram kits even how similar they look and seem like on the specs, they are not made or tested to work with each other like a 32 or 64 kit is. ( from 2 chips and more in one kit ).

look in to the slots and see if you can see enny bent pins.
clear Cmos and try and se if it wil boot with one ram in the designated slot adviced in the manual.

There is no apparent damage to the RAM slots. Also, the problem persists regardless of whether or not I mix two kits, or run single sticks.

Please run Memset86+ as per my guide in sig and that way you will know where the problem is. What it sounds like to me is a Motherboard that needs to be replaced.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

I have had this problem for a while on Saberooth X79 as well.. but I think it might be the RAM in my case as I have tried positioning ram in different slots and got ABNORMAL message on one of them each time.

Make sure you check that RAM stick that's causing the ABNORMAL.. I have Corsair Dominators 4x8 DDR3 1600 kit so they are all the same.
