Both will overclock well depending on your cooling but why not just go for a z170 board?

i own both boards allready.

the hero dyed on me and had to rma, so i bought the sabertooth mark 2 since i did not want to wait without pc.

but i have the hero back at least for now, since the rma did not go to well, but more news about that tomorrow 🙂

i have an intel 4770K wich i oced to 4.2 for now, @ 1.2v anything above will be a struggle i think, ive only adjusted Vcore and llc for now, maybe some more tweaking would be needed?

i use the kraken x61 aio cooling, temps are fine.

I suppose the sabertooth z97 might be a bit better since its a generation newer but with the same cpu I doubt there will be much performance difference.

Temperature controls how far you can overclock your cpu and with the kraken x61 I would think you could get to 4.4GHz - 4.5GHz rather easily.

Welcome to the ROG forum by the way. 🙂

thank you for the welcome 🙂

i will go with the sabertooth as i am pleased with both boards anyway and i like all the temp sensors on the sabertooth 🙂
