Accidentally pressed the back clear CMOS button

Hello all i have a maximus formula VI board and while i was fixing the antenna in the back, i accidentally hit the clear CMOS while the system was on and running. The computer made a loud screech sound and restarted. Luckily it booted up fine and now I'm worried that i might have damaged something. What happens when you press clear CMOS when the computer is powered on?

I'm not sure. Turn the system off, check for any damage that was not there prior to the "accident". Then reboot, see if it works.

cmos = reset of bios.
lets say you get a baad oc and just get bsods and so on.
then you can hit cmos witch will set your bios back to default settings.
as long as you did oc in bios. not recomended to do in os.

No worries the system should be fine with a CLEAR CMOS in OS...

Howiever, I suspect you did a touch more than just press CLEAR CMOS to get a screech out of your system. 😄 But should be fine.

oh thanks! One more thing, i was actually in the UEFI and not in the OS when it happened. Does it make a difference?

Not really....a bit better even, since the OS might suffer a bit of corruption if you do it while in windows but even then you'll probably be fine.

Clearing CMOS in UEFI should not really have done anything...I've done it plenty of times and not had anything happen. The odd thing is the screech....any idea what from? A fan? speakers?
