4k Asus 120Hz monitor

Hey Guys,

I realize I'm in the market for something that does not exist yet.
Does anyone happen to know if a 4k 120 Hz refresh monitor
either TN or IPS is being tested or developed? The new
Swift PG278Q looks awesome. I've had a 2560 x 1600 Lg for a couple years,
but this new Asus refresh rate is so much better. I'm contemplating waiting
possibly another year until a 4k (3840 x2160) 120 Hz refresh monitor is available.
Has anyone heard anything or know when something like this might come out?

I realize we don't really have the throughput capability at the moment with HDMI 2.0
and DisplayPort 1.2 limiting the refresh at ultra high res. I did read that DisplayPort 1.3 is in development and may have a release possibly in Q2 of this year. This promises to bring 120 hz refresh capability for 4k and 3D 4k and
8k video playback capability, as well from what I've read. Not only is the interface fast enough right now, I don't think there
are many graphics cards that exist (if any) that can push 120+ frames per second in 4k even in 4-way SLI or Crossfire.
Maybe this will be possible with the next Nvidia or AMD card refresh? Purely speculative, but ultimately believe
these high FPS capabilities in 4k will be possible in another generation or two.

Would anybody be interested in this type of 4k monitor? I have been scouring the earth and unable to really find any info
on one at the moment. I think this would be the ultimate monitor especially for FPS gaming. Would be nice if they could throw in fast 1ms response time, high contrast, and good brightness level too.

Let me know what you guys think! And appreciate any response or feedback, thanks.

Welcome to the board, Don't think we'll see a monitor like that this year but I sure would like to have one..

Thanks Abvolt. Yeah, agreed and hopefully something like it is not too far off. Can you imagine playing The Witcher 3 or Half-Life 3 in 4k
at 120 hz?

Can't wait for this to happen...4K non tiled 60Hz IPS or 120 Hz IPS wiwth G-sync is my dream...I think some gimicky 4K is coming at 30Hz...which will be terrible...and then hopefully the connectivity and GPU grunt will be sorted (Maxwell) and some decent 4K monitors will be released for a reasonable price...not long from now I hope but this year I doubt it....

Still....fingers crossed....need HDMI and the vested interests to die

Amen, @Arne, the HDMI group needs to die, they are stifling development, since their standard is weaker than the open display-port standard. Then again, they have the Hollywood backing...

Darn right Zygo! Didn't know Hollywood was in on that... though it makes sense....yes, it has been a real force for stagnation in display technology and needs to go. AMD have given VESA "DP 1.3" http://semiaccurate.com/2013/10/11/amd-solves-4k-display-problems-vesa-display-id-v1-3/

People need to start boycotting HDMI or we'll get nowhere....

Ditto. I'd honestly sooner use DVI than HDMI, expressly because of this. The whole DRM fiasco is that it only irritates the honest people, because the dishonest ones will find a way around it. 🙂

Asus has just release the PB287Q monitor, it is a SINGLE panel, 4K, 60Hz, 1ms GTG, $650 monitor!

The ONLY "relatively" downside of this monitor that it has a TN panel not IPS. However as per this review, the reviewer claims:
- It has wider viewing angles than other TNs
- It does not produce the "film negative" when viewed from extreme angles.

Although this monitor makes me drool especially for this crazy price of $650, but I think I will hold my horses until a 120Hz monitor is released.
