4930K First Time Overclocker 4.7Ghz Am I doing this right?

Hi Forum

Just recently built my first desktop PC and experiencing my first time overclocking.
My setup is:
Intel i7 4930K
Asus Rampage IV Black Edition
2x 8GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400MHz 10-12-12-31 1.65V
Corsair H110 for CPU cooling

I've been playing around with the bios overclocking tools and AI SUITE 3 using AIDA64 for stress testing.
My first stable run was at 4.7Ghz with multiplier of 47 on all cores and a CPU VCORE of 1.385V resulting in a core voltage of 1.420V for AI SUITE 3 and 1.408V for CPU-Z. Memory is in XMP mode and running at 2400MHz. A CPU VCORE of 1.380V resulted in an unstable system in 30 mins. Running AIDA64 I maintained a stable system for around 7 hours with CPU temps between 40-50 degrees Celsius and my individual core temps between 70-80 degrees Celsius.

The questions I pose are:
1. Is this a good oc?
2. Is the voltage too high and should I go for a lower multiplier and CPU VCORE?
3. What would the life expectancy of this chip be at these settings?
4. Should CPU VCORE always be at 1.408V even when not under load and if so is there anyway to drop the voltage in idle use?

Any responses will be appreciated and helpful
Thanks

Your pc should completely shut down with windows 7 if you did not change anything. You could always flip the switch on the back of the psu after shutting it down.

So there is no way to set that up on Bios?

I've never seen any settings in the bios for shutting down my pc.

Here is something you might find helpful.

I found out how to do it!
I went into another section in the forum talking about that, I saw one talking about going into UEFI Advance > APM set to Enabled.
what I did was set it to [ S4+S5 ] and that worked out for me, when I shutdown system it's completely shutdown, with no lights on and no power feed of USB.:D

Thanks again for the quick helping response. I would like to add you as a friend, trying to figure out how and set my avatar....

Sure, I'll add you as a friend but you have to make a few more posts first. The option to add you as a friend is not there yet.

Had a long gaming session yesterday...no BSODs anymore ! Will do the aida test for a longer time anyway. Thx again Nate for your great help !
And thx to EXILE157, had the same mobo christmas tree blinking after shutdown. Now solved that too 🙂

Hi there.

I've followed the setting given on the previous post and my pc runs amazingly with stable temp. Tried tweak abit with bclk 101.2 and cpu core 45 runs on 1.39v, getting for about 4.567 cpu speed, with max temp risen up to 78 on one core, the rest resting at 60 - 65. Runs AIDA64, only manage to stay up til 4 mins before crashes.

I did tweaked my gc, getting gpu clocked 1192

Is it possible to get 4.7? Thanks.

My spec :

i7 4930k
16GB corsair dominator 16GB (4x4) DDR3 / 2133 Mhz
h80i
Asus GTX 760 DC2 OC

Hello xzadusz,

When you raise the BCLK that will also increase your ram speed which is probably what is causing the instability. For now just let the BCLK at 100.

You have excellent temps using the H80i cpu cooler so 4.7 might be possible.

After setting the BCLK to 100 raise the cpu core ratio to 46 and run aida64 for 3 minutes. Is it stable or blue screen?

Did you manually set the cpu core voltage to 1.39v?

Please post your cpu temps.

BCLK back to 100, cpu core 46 with cpu core voltage set back to 1.37 manually gets BSOD.
