4790k Custom Watercooled 94c under load :(

So I just finished custom watercooling my streaming PC and here are the specs below-

CPU- Intel Core i7 4790K
Motherboard- Asus MAXIMUS VII Gene
RAM- Corsair Vengence 16GB (2×8) DDR3 21330Mhz
GFX Card- Asus GeForce GTX750ti 2G STRIX
Capture Cards- Aver Media Live Gamer HD x 2
SSD- Samsung EVO SERIES 250GB
HDD- WD 4TB Caviar Black 7200rpm
PSU- Corsair AX750i Platinum Power Supply
CASE- Phanteks Enthu Evlov mATX

Watercooling Components-

EKWB

CPU Block- Supremecy Evo
Rads- LC Solution Coolstream PE 240 x 2
Fans- Vardar 2200RPM x 4
Pump- D5 PWM Pump
Rez- XRes 3


And here are the temps I am getting under load, which I think should be way cooler. Am I wrong?

oh I just noticed I had the wrong specs for the RAM there.

Its actually Corsair Vengence 16GB (2×8) DDR3 21330Mhz.

OK, try setting your ram manually with the voltages I posted and see if this gets temps any lower.

Is there any disadvantage to not running XMP mode or setting Ram to its rated speeds?

As it seems to make the CPU run hotter, thus making the fans spn faster and then making the whole system louder.

Hello,

XMP automatically adjusts all the timimings so you don't have to manually change each one in the BIOS.
Also some voltages are tweaked, memory voltage, Memory controller, VccIO and VccSA.

For the 4th Gen i7-4790K you will always get high temps if you do not adjust the Processor Current Limit option in the BIOS, your XTU screenshot shows this to be excessively high.

To run at 4.4Ghz try a lower value,
  • Proccessor Current Limit = 105A
  • Vcore 1.20v < Set in your BIOS
  • VccIO leave to the default value = ~1.015v
  • VccSA leave to the default value = ~0.85v

Hopefully this will get you reasonably lower temperatures.

ok so I downloaded the latest CPUZ and the reading are still strange

I also went into the BIOS and and change the CPU to 4.4 and Core Voltatge to 1.200V

As you can see in the screenshot, CPU Z still shows 900 somthing 😞

CPU Analogue IO Voltage

Your board will likely have these set to default, before changing what are they at?

Then enable XMP, save&exit
Check again, did they increase?

Yes, you have the option to lower depending on memory frequency.
2133Mhz you will likely be able to use default but try and see 🙂

I'm not sure what's going on with cpu-z but you could try HWinfo and see if it reports the same, I see Intel XTU is reporting the core voltage at 1.20v, if you can get it down to 1.15v this will decrease temps a little more.

On the Extreme Tweaker Tab you should see:

CPU VCCIO voltage
CPU System Agent voltage which = VCCSA

These voltages help stabilize high speed/capacity ram. the lower you can get these the better too,

I personally like to set the ram manually vs using XMP.

HWinfo monitors pretty much everything.

VCCSA and VCCIO voltages in the 2nd picture.
