4-Way optimizaion & 4770k

Hello,

I OCd my 4770k with the new software to 4.4GHz, but apparently my mobo doesn't support the automatic OC feature, so it only has the 3 presets to choose from to OC the CPU and I took the 4.4GHz one. Now my CPU runs at 1.264V and idles at 26-29c and it hasn't crashed once.

So, would this OC be safe considering the voltage? Can I just leave it as it is if it's stable?

Hi Villani 🙂

That sounds fine to me...just one thing, the idle temp doesn't mean much..it is the temperature and voltage at load running a stress test or a demanding game that are more interesting. If you are under 75 or 80 degrees running a stress test then all good...

Alright, a small update...

I increased my voltage to 1.270, kept the clock at 4,4GHz (tried 4.6 @ 1.310V but it crashed). I also enabled XMP.
I ran RealBench1.1 and my temps were 72'C at max on full load.

I tried to get 4,5GHz on the same 1.270 but it crashed, also on 1.280.

Is there a notifiable increase in performance if I increase the clocks to 4,5 from 4,4GHz?

Hmm...

Now my PC keeps crashing while playing Osu! with 4.4GHz @ 1.270V, raised to 1.280 to see if it happens again.

Might be either the CPU or memory thats unstable. Be systematic; get the CPU cores stable, then work on the memory side. Sometimes, a CPU can need more Vcore (apart from the obvious VCCSA or Cache or DRAM voltage adjustments) when running the memory at high frequency.

Yeah...
I disabled XMP, gonna leave it disabled, don't feel the need for it in gaming/ everyday use.

Had to raise voltage to 1.30V, ran a stress test for an hour, seems to be stable now at 4.4GHz.

I know it's a silly question to ask, but if I overclock 4670k to something like 4.2 GHz, how much life time (approximately) will I be taking of the cpu?

And my computer still keeps crashing occasionally at 4.4GHz with 1.30V, even thought it passed almost an hour of stress testing.

WTF?

Might be a below average CPU. There are samples out there that don't clock to 4.3GHz with anything less than 1.40V. Reduce the CPU clock more until its stable and work from there.

Increased the voltage to 1.31V. Hope it stays stable.
