Z97-PRO "A disk read error occurred!" message on boot

I have the PC which I assembled many years ago based on Asus Z97-PRO motherboard. It was working fine, and performing reasonably well for the tasks it was intended, but it is getting old, doesn't support Windows 11, and some other modern technologies. So, I decided to build a new system. As soon as I received the hardware for a new PC my old system suddenly stopped booting. Talking about PCs being sentient, conscientious, and jealous beings. 😉
When I was trying to boot the PC, I was getting "A disk read error occurred!" error. I tried different things. Somebody suggested to clear CMOS. I did. Now my boot SSD and data SSD don't show in the boot list. Only USBs. But the SSDs do appear in the boot override list. I was able to boot PC with recovery USB drive and to clone the boot SSD to another SSD in case there is a hardware problem with the boot SSD. I swapped the boot SSD with the new one, but the new SSD still does not show in the boot list. I tried different SSD ports. No luck. I need to be able to boot my old PC to export some data for the new PC. Any ideas what I could do here?
