Z97-A RAID and PCIe Config Questions

Hello,

I have 2 questions concerning the Z97-A (used with i7 4770k).

1- I will be upgrading from MSI Mpower z77 and 3570k. I had a RAID 1 array of 2 4TB HDDs and a 512GB SSD boot drive. Where should I plug each of these SATA6GB devices in order to remake My RAID array and in order to not use any M.2 or SATA express shared plugs ? Would SATA6G_1 for SSD and SATA6G_3 and 4 for HHDs work ? Can I RAID SATA6G_1 and 2 together as well (RAID 0) if I add an SSD later on ?

2- I have a R9 290 and an ASUS PCE-A68 wireless AC module occupying PCIe slots. My GPU will be plugged in PCIE3.0x16_1. Will my GPU work at x16 if I plug my PCIe AC module in PCIE2.0x1_1 ?

Thanks for the help.

Connect the boot drive to the SATA6G_1 port and the 4TB drives to SATA ports SATA 6G_3 and SATA 6G_4 ports. As the designation shows the PCIE3.0x16_1 is PCIe 3.0 so its connected to the CPU and PCIE2.0x1_1 is PCIe 2.0 which indicates it is tied to the PCH so one will have no influence on the use of the other.

Will I be able to RAID SATA6G_1 and 2 if I add an SSD considering SATA6G_3 and 4 are RAIDED as well ?

Would PCIe2.0x1 bottleneck the performance of the Asus PCE AC68 ?

1. Yes

2. The PCE AC68 is spec'd to use PCIe 2.0 x1.
