It's taken a week and one MOBO to get to the bottom of the incompatibility with server 2012 but I have found a fix for the Nic not being recognized and the driver problem.

If you have the need to run server 2008 or 2012 on your home system (haven't tested 2008 but someone has made it work) then follow this link .......... http://www.ivobeerens.nl/2012/08/08/enable-the-intel-82579v-nic-in-windows-server-2012/

Hope someone finds this helpful,

I'm not sure why you wouldn't use the Intel Server 2012 82579V driver.

The reason as I found out is 2012 does not recognise the NIC, try loading the driver "cannot load driver as no hardware exists" or It says something like that, so you look in devices, NICs, nothing there !!

Try the CD which comes with the MOBO, not compatible with 2012..............

So you have to MOD the Windows 8 driver so that 2012 sees the NIC then load the driver and presto network connectivity !

I tried that, still came up with nic not recognised , so would not install the driver....

So you are saying that you just installed the driver and that was it ??

Is Your mobo a Crosshair v formular z, and what Bios version are you on ?

I don't generally like to resurrect dead threads, but I am newly encountering the same issue described by jdckoi.
Currently, running with BIOS version 2201.

@Praz: The only time I have successfully used the Intel driver installer was when I first bought the board, installed Win7 Pro, and installed drivers from the supplied disk.
I have since installed Win8.1 Pro and WinServer2012 r2, and for both of these, I encounter the same issue as jdckoi.

@jdckoi: Have tried your method - and, I played with a variety of tweaks and suggestions - but, I have been unable to make 2012r2 recognize my LAN adapter.

Has anyone done this more recently?
