x16 vs x8

I have wanted for awhile to move my sli to the 3rd and 4th slot.
( mainly so I could better salivate over all the pr0ns that would be otherwise hidden )
Assuming that would give me x8 x8...
I have been hesitant as new articles on the web of late show instances of substantial performance differences:

worst case scenario:


I am hoping my assumption of x8 x8 are incorrect with such a two way sli.
Perhaps with only two cards the penalty might only be x16, x8???

Why are you not wanting to use 1rst and 3rd pci-express slot for full 16x?

cuz my ek water block is chromy shiny with glowing green blood but is hidden with 1 and 3.
Not all the way.
And no matter now I have gone 3 way. I have no choice but to ribbon 134.

( the price one pays when bit by the MOD hobby are nerd spaztic aesthetic desires like water block prominence. Do u know the pain? )

Actually, the second page shows a 7% difference with multi-monitor resolutions that are alot smaller than my bezel corrected extreme of 6050x1080!
And I imagine that if they had further stressed the test to further mirror my setup cravings with 3D...
That the percentage may be as high as 10%!
Considering extreme gameplay requirements like mine. I would say even 7% for everyframe I can get is more than a negligible difference when you are trying to find 3d multi monitor surround happiness in B3?

But again the point is moot fer now since I went tri sli watercooled for my solution. And will probable tri sli kepler when the enthusiast cards come out.

Heck I got 3 27inch acers that I will probably sell now that lightboost is out for 3d!

Really? Your going to consider 3-4 FPS more then a negligible difference?

If you are worrying about that, then you need to turn off the FRAPs and actually enjoy the video game you are playing, instead of focusing on FPS

There is a trade off between bling (AKA hardware pron) and performance. Now the hit you are going to take is so small that it is not worth worrying about. Especially with the more powerful graphic cards that I suspect you will be using.
