Worst Board ever Formula X79

This is the worst Mb i have ever used the BIOS is temperamental only lets you in when it feels like it then after you change settings you have to manually reset the pc other wise it sticks at the splash screen for 6 minuets, changing any ram settings means the CPU gets stuck at turbo settings so Speedstep doesnt work.

Fan expert doesnt work with the CPU headers only the chassis headers.

Over all i feel like a downgrade from my Phenom x6 and Crosshair Formula IV which was the best Mb i had ever owned.

Alot of users love this board.

What is the rest of your system specs and maybe we can help you get it working correctly.

Your RAM settings could actually be to blame for all of your problems, what RAM are you using. Are you enabling XMP, setting rampage tweak mode 1 , clock gen 20uf and the DRAM / VCCSA voltages.

What USB devices do yo have attached to your PC its often USB device detection that causes an extended period at the splash screen.

The R4F i think is amazing. I haven't had any problems getting in to bios, and every time i've changed something its always reset without any issues. I have had few problems with DIMM slots, RAM just needed re seating in the slot correctly, and worked fine after. Be sure that the XMP profile is enabled to run at the advertised RAM speeds, i only found that out from researching on here tho, has worked perfectly ever since 🙂

Blair .. Welcome to ROGforum.

I must admit that I gritted my teeth seeing that this is your first post and you declared 'Worst Board ever..' in the title.
UNTIL .. the last line.
(Always makes my day. Curious then though, Why Not the V ?)

What do you say ? Give these 'poor' Intel guyZ a shot at helping you sort it out ?
The X79, from all I have read and discovered is truly a wonder ..

Sorry to hear of your issues .. Best of Luck.c.

EDIT::: ... oooops ...(Should have refreshed to see if any other posted..sorry.)... 'they' are on it.
I have to add .. time and time again .. I see issues .. that includes
Vengence in the specs .. just an observation.c.

I love this board... I've changed ram with no problems, I'm booting from post to desktop in 23-25 seconds. If it's stuck in turbo check EPU power saving setings. I've it disabled in bios and control it with ASUS AI suite.

So what RAM and maybe we can help. As all forum regulars here will no RAM is the biggest item causing problems on X79, once we know your RAM I am sure we can help.

Corsair Vengence 2133Mhz 11-11-11-30

PC wont shut down or restart have to do it manually, BIOS wont let me in, PC gets stuck at "press DEL to enter UEFI BIOS setting", GPU2 when in the desktop or not in games should turn its self off and normally did it had 0/0mhz and 0% activity now though it has 500/1575Mhz and stay at this speed doesnt matter what you do.

Turning crossfire off then on again fixes it till you restart the pc again (reset button, restart doesnt work sticks at shutting down and then at the UEFI thingy) then its back to having high clocks.

This all happened after my PC "lost power" for the third time. It just shut off like someone had pulled the power lead.

I commend you for your patience. I just purchased a RIVE a couple weeks ago and installed it last weekend. I was NOT so patient with a particular issue.

I know that for myself, I decided to setup the board on a bench by itself with a Seasonic Gold power supply and do some testing for at least a week prior to attempting install. At least this way I could find out what the limits were for each component and be sure everything was stable.

I tested my RAM at rated speeds (2133) for 15 hours first before checking out the mobo and then overclocking. I basically used a very old ATI PCIe video card and single SATA drive with win7 x64 to test and burn-in the mobo,RAM, CPU, Water cooler.

Everything in stages was important, I needed to take it slow. I installed the mobo,RAM,CPU, Cooler int the case with a single video card and had all the extra hardware turned off in the BIOS. Once I got the basic O/S installed and hardware and chipset drivers installed, I turned on things like Networking, sound, Bluetooth etc... I normally run a triple monitor setup off my 7970 but did not move the system to those monitors until all was stable. It is strange. Everything seemed just fine but upon rebooting the next day I would get to a login screen and all the LCD's go blank and freeze. It took booting to safe mode, removing video drivers, restarting and install the them again to fix things. I'm not saying this is the issue but from where I have been with a single 7970 it might be a good place to start.

I myself will likely leave ATI for a while for a pair of NVidia 680's. I just have not been pleased with this 7970

Luck to you and Happy Holidays
