Worst Board ever Formula X79

This is the worst Mb i have ever used the BIOS is temperamental only lets you in when it feels like it then after you change settings you have to manually reset the pc other wise it sticks at the splash screen for 6 minuets, changing any ram settings means the CPU gets stuck at turbo settings so Speedstep doesnt work.

Fan expert doesnt work with the CPU headers only the chassis headers.

Over all i feel like a downgrade from my Phenom x6 and Crosshair Formula IV which was the best Mb i had ever owned.

i actually did give himr rep for that after reading this entire thread... I think its a good deal to do with the 7970s I know my personal experience with the catalyst control center have mostly been negative. not allowing an update to operate ( i updated to 12.4 and 12.3 6 times before they even went into effect. kept telling me i needed to update to it when i already did sveral times.) but i have heard alot of bad about ati drivers. and i had the gtx 280 went to a radeon 5670 and now theres a 680 in the mail for me. only 7970 i considered was the matrix just to be a rog fanboy or the 6gb venom cuz its the only card that outdoes a gtx680.

Yes indeed. The ATI software has given me issues twice now, the 12.10 catalyst in particular. After being up for a day I was watching a TV show (torrents). The majority of the the time the CPU is under no real load ( -10%). There is an audible POP from the speakers and a restart. After killing the power and draining all energy from the motherboard and power supply I fire it back up. I get a login screen and upon entering the password they all go blank. This is the 2nd time this has happened. I express uninstall video drivers, delete the ATI Directory and remove ATI entries from registry. This time I did some reading and instead am reading people commenting that many of the new driver builds are full of instability bugs with various games and further agree the 12.4 and 12.3 were pretty stable. Well that's where I am at now. If everything remains stable for another 5 days I will claim victory.

We are on the same page Mhztweaker, I still consider myself a n00b each time a new platform comes out. The advantage I have is that normally I have been playing with the platform for a couple of months prior to public release.

And you do not need to tone anything down. I was simply concerned that it was the regulars such as folks like myself, who have been coming across as all knowing and condescending. I would be horrified if it was the case but hubris is lurking in all men I fear.

You take care and keep posting.

I know it's an old post, but Corsair Vengeance memory is very well known for all kind of incompatibility with the x79 chipset. Did you try other brand/Model of ram, known to work good with x79?

Well since my update to 3101, ive had 1 crash and i think it may have been a driver as i was testing a alpha game at the time. Havn't once got stuck at the boot screen and havnt had any BSOD.

Just wondering if to update to the newer BIOS's that are out now.

Very happy with performance now. Only shame is i had it for about 4 months before ASUS fixed it.

i've been using R4F since early last year, back from March 2012 to now, never had a problem with it.

until i switched to the newer series of the BIOS 3000 and up
the new Win 8 compatible BIOSes are nasty

it always comes down to some BIOS settings when you get stuck at boot, once you figure out which feature works, and which doesn't then you are good to go.
