Win10 install on x99-A 3.1 completely fails

So I went to do a clean reinstall of windows 10 on a new Asus X99-A 3.1, and it's gone totally sideways.

I've got an M.2 SM951 samsung, and when I try to use that after the first reboot I get an error message "Windows Setup could not configure Windows on this computer’s hardware." If I install onto one of my other SSDs then I can get it a bit further, but it typically hangs on "Just a few more moments" spinning circle screen.

I disabled my NIC in bios and tried reinstalling again to the SATA SSD and it got into windows, but it takes 5 minutes or so for the explorer shell to launch, and then the start menu still doesn't work.

*** is wrong with the windows installer.

The iso I'm using I downloaded directly from the MSDN.com site and it's SHA1 hash matches what MS lists. I've also tried using two different thumb sticks. I'm using rufus to copy the iso on to the USB thumb drives.

Clear your CMOS to bring system back to stock defaults. Then proceed with your Windows installation. Make sure you do a UEFI install.

Also please list your complete system specifications.

Yeah the bios reset was step one. I am booting via UEFI.

I've disconnected every peripheral that is not required.

I have when trying to install onto the sm951. Although trying to install on the the X-25 I've left the sm951 in, but deleted all the partitions off of it.

I've tried to install windows 8.1 and it appeared to install correctly, but after booting into windows it's giving me an error 28 on almost everything in device manager.

Can you download the latest Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft and redo your USB pendrive? Also please post a screenshot of the Rufus settings before you proceed.

You can also try updating your motherboard's BIOS to the latest.

Yup tried using the windows media creation tool, and I'm already using the latest 3301 bios.

Still no love.

Had intel RMA the processor.

Everything is gravy now.
