Will a NVMe SSD run at full speed with adapter Rampage 4 Black Edition

I have an Asus Rampage 4 Black Edition Motherboard its getting old now as it does not have a M.2 or NVMe M.2 so if I install a SilverStone ECM21 M.2 (M key) to PCI-E x4 Adapter Card and use a Samsung 960 PRO 512GB SSD (M.2 NVMe) will it run at full speed? I have a socket 2011 i7 4930K CPU with a X79 chipset and the manual for PCIE has:

PCIE_X16_1 being used for my 3D card
PCIE_X8_2
PCIEX1_1
PCIE_X16/X8_3
PCIEX1_2
PCIE_X8_4

I dont know what Gen my PCIE is

the SilverStone adapter needs a 4X PCIE but I dont have one will it work in an 8X and will the 960 Pro be just as fast at Read/Write speeds upto 3500/2100?

The adapter and SSD:

I have a native PCIE Intel @ full speed.
For boot I needed:
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?48001-R4E-BIOS-4804-MODDED-EFI-Intel-13-1-0-2126-Download

There you can also find the bios file and a lot of info.

As far as I see the specs, it should work well.
Booting is another thing, and aslo depending on drivers 😛
