Why has ASUS Forsaken the RIVE-BE?

carson_riess

I would be very interested to know why the RIVE-BE has not received any updates for the BIOS, drivers or software since 7/14. I posted this concern a while back, but was told that updates are provided as they come out... a patently false statement it turns out.

The latest BIOS was released about a year ago... and it is a beta release. The latest chipset, USB, SATA, LAN, etc... drivers were released on 5/28/14. The latest software update was 5/30/14.

This is truly unacceptable. The BIOS only needs to be updated to address issues or for compatibility, but it's a BETA!!! As for drivers, Intel, Asmedia, Realtek, et al have released several driver updates in the past year, but ASUS cannot be bothered to post them in the freaking driver update section. Utilities like AISuite have received updates on other platforms, but the RIVE-BE has again been snubbed.

As I mentioned, my other ASUS boards are still receiving updates. My A88x-Pro has windows 10 driver support already! I realize that the X99 platform demands attention, but why should those of us who purchased a ~500$ board that was the flagship less than a year ago no longer matter?

I find it to be frustrating and disappointing. I I'm wrong, then correct me; however, I see no other conclusion than that ASUS no longer cares about the x79 platform.

Hello all,

I agree with this post.... It has been a year since they updated the BIOS.

On another note... I am trying to find a stable overclock with a 4930k.

I am having hell with this. I am new to overclocking but I have read and educated myself a good bit thus far.

So far...

I am at 4.5ghz at 1.41v, XMP memory overclocked to 2133 at 10 11 11 30 2 timings. I am seeing idle temps around 39c - 42c and after an hour of prime95 I am seeing a max of 74c.

I am monitoring temps using RealTempGT and HWMonitor.

However, I get blue screens when I run Cinebench, Intel burn test, or the CPU test in 3D Mark Vantage. The temps before I see the blue screen are around 68c-74c.

I want to eliminate the blue screens....

So... Is my vcore too high? If not... How high can I go?

Is the BSOD from low vcore?

Please help!!!!

Thanks,
Layne

I was unable to achieve a x45 overclock on my 4930k with my RAM @ 2133MHz. I got the system stable at 4500 with the 1333 default speed and timings, but if I overclocked at all (even to 1600 with the xmp timings/voltages) I would get random BSODs. So it seems that 4.4GHz is the sweet spot for 4930ks.

I originally was trying to get my system to clock higher just for the sake of pushing my system to see how high I could overclock it... but, from a performance standpoint, you really aren't going to see any difference between a CPU clock of 4.4 and 4.5GHz. I have a stable system with my 4930K at 4.4GHz with a VCORE of 1.35v. VTT and VCCSA are left at defaults. My 32GB 4x8 G-Skill Ripjawz-Z 2133 RAM is set to the XMP profile, and I have two GTX980s in SLI. The whole system is under water except for the RAM and HDDs. My temps are excellent and the system is stable.

What does the BSOD say, BTW? You might try loading the XMP profile, but then lowering the RAM clock to 1866 and then 1600. Alternatively (or in addition), try loosening the RAM timings.

Is there any way to get windows to boot on intel 750 series pcie ssd??

I have an Intel PC D3700, and it works great.

My biggest beef is with the fact that ASUS ended on BIOS Beta Version 0801. They didn't even give us a finished BIOS. At this point, I would be happy if they just reissued 0801 beta as 0900 final. There is a glimmer of hope for a little attention as Win10 rolls out (Win10 sections have already been added to the downloads section. With any luck there will be something in the BIOS and/or utilities&drivers to require some editing that might then trigger some code/bug review and updating. I currently have my system in dual boot mode with Win7 Ultimate 64bit & Win10 preview. As you all can see from my signature, I have a lot of money invested in this system and I too am very disappointed with the sudden stoppage of support.

By the way, I am getting ~52GB/s memory throughput as reported by SiSoft Sandra. I can get the memory to run at its stock timing of 2400MHz 10-10-12-31 2T but throughput drops to only ~22GB/s. When experimenting with memory tweaking it is important to measure the throughput because timings that seem intuitively faster may not be so at all. I am still trying to get the memory to run at 2400MHz with proper throughput. If I am successful, It should reach ~58GB/s.

I agree with you about Windows 10 possibly acting as a catalyst for some updates. I will probably hold off on Win 10 until they've worked out all of the bugs. I know that the tech-preview route has allowed for much more fine-tuning than previous versions of Windows, but on the two systems that I ran the Win10 tech preview I had a number of issues which caused me to eventually revert to Windows 8.1.

I've never actually measured my RAM throughput... I'll have to do so. As I understand RAM speeds, timings can be more pivotal than clockspeed. Therefore, it can be beneficial to reduce your clock to 2133 in order to lower timings... at least this is what I think is the case. Could it be that the RAM is bottlenecking due to limitations on the PCI-e bus? Perhaps lowering the RAM clock would help for this reason. Again, I am far from an expert on RAM. I'll see what my throughput is and get back to you.

Here are my memory timings:

50511

50512

50513

Again, memory voltage is set at 1.725V and VCCSA is 1.350V
also, core is at 4.2GHz & 1.265V, PCH 1.5V is at 1.375V to reduce heat

I have set the refresh interval to about 3 times default to gain some bandwidth.

The board has everything I need. I do not mind the lack of drivers because they can be found on Intel's site or else where for new drivers. I just want them to update the efi to support NVMe. I do not care if they kill support after that but just release a darn efi update to support NVMe. I want to upgrade to a NVMe SM951 but with the current efi this board can't boot to it.

if Asus could just go ahead and include NVMe support, and make my SM951 SSD (ACHI) show up in the BIOS, that's be great. Thanks!
