Why does the Crosshair V Formula-Z NOT have PCI-e 3.0?

I mean really, everything else is cool... well except the amd's ROG signs dont light up and we dont get extreme boards like the intel's do! I'd LOVE to have a KILLER Crosshair Board EXTREME with all the tweaks on it...

I was gonna buy a Crosshair V Formula-Z to replace my CVF but if its not 3.0 I dont see the need. I just find it amazing that they didnt give us a PCIe 3.0 lane or 2, I'm mind boggled over that! Any thoughts?

Mate the Gen3 is a CPU thing not a motherboard thing. So if you want Gen3 PCIe you will need a CPU that is Gen3. Currently the only CPU that I am aware of is the latest Ivy processors.

AMD is the one you need to be chatting too, but I do feel your pain. I would love a extreme AMD processor that was worthy of a top end motherboard. Oh well maybe one day.

The Video Cards HD7000 series has PCI Express 3.0, thats what I mean, am I confused here?

Yes, those HD7000 series graphics cards support PCIe 3.0... as well as some latest Nvidia ones too...

What HiVizMan was saying is that beside a PCIe 3.0 capable graphics card you also need a CPU to support PCIe 3.0. And the only CPU able to do this is the Ivy Bridge family... AMD CPUs can not support yet...

Not confused, the VGA is indeed a Gen3 item, but the PCIe Gen3 controller needs to be located someplace. Now the trend is for more and more of the system controllers to be located on the CPU. Memory controllers, USB controllers, SATA controller for example are all now located on the CPU. PCIe controllers for the next generation (Gen3 as we loosely use) are located on die.

It is for that reason that we need to be talking to the processor manufactures.

I hope that clears it up about Gen3.

It does clear things up but im wondering why AMD would put out PCI 3.0 vid's and not the processers... kinda weird to me! Thank You both for clearing that up...

So they can sell them to people who use intel Ivy products.

Speed the thing is that all the current so called Gen3 video cards do not even use the full potential of the current Gen2 PCIe controllers. Think of it like this, the architecture used in the VGA has the potential to utilize the 8 GT/s but does not have the means to do so. So really in my view it is more a future feature than a now feature, until such time as we have Gen3 devices that can actually exceed the data rates of Gen2 it is just a marketing wet dream.
