I have a question about Video memory and dedicating video memory. Im looking to by 2 new cards to run in sli these here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130595. I have read that BF3 uses alot of video memory and I understand that in SLI it does not link both cards together on the memory but the processors are linked. Is there somewhere in the bios to dedicate memory to the graphics cards I have 16gb of memory. Instead of purchaseing these cards http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130687.

Just buy a single card with 3GB of memory.

Less problems and great performance.

HD 7970 is cheaper and will max out pretty much anything right now.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

I have only used nvidia cards. I have been told the drivers for ati/amd are horriable and know a few people that switch from ati/amd to nvidia. I have never had any trouble with nvidia drivers. I guess im just leary.

Wildman, as with all things there are problems and solutions. I have used both nVidia and ATI/AMD for years and they both have there good and bad points. I know as a fact that nVidia Drivers have had some bad versions come out just as ATI/AMD. I'm using a strange setup that I've been told is ether useless or just not worth the time but I've found out just the opposite. My setup requires Both ATI and nVidia drivers to be active and with a little patch they actually make a much better setup with no conflicts. So take the rumor mill with a grain of salt.

Not that I know of unless you have a IGP video like the 980xxx chip sets of which I don't think any ROG Motherboards are equipped with.

I play BF3 on Ultra settings at 1920x1080 resoution, the game has used up to 1.2GB of vram.
Any resolution above this and especially using multiple monitors will require a card with 2.0, 2.5, or 3.0GB vram.
In SLI or CrossFire, the cards share each others memory, it's not doubled the amount of vram.

I had to split my SLI, so now I'm running single GTX 560 Ti with 2 gigs of video ram, and it murders BF3, I haven't checked framerates, but they're well above 50, that I can guarantee, minus headache when sync goes south and system crashes.
equally nVidia and ATi known to make awesome products and garbage, so, it's not the brand that matters, but who
on a streak of good luck at the moment, however, ATi does make good heating elements out of their VCore's.
only reason that I don't have ATi in my rig is that nVidia has fully supported HDMI 3D frames on driver level.
In computer world preferencing one brand or another can spell disaster really fast.
