VI Extreme + GSkill 2400 prob

I've installed the Gskill ram F3-2400C10D16GTX in DIMM slots as per the vi extreme instructions, it wasn't booting up with both DIMM's installed or getting into the BIOS, I then used a single DIMM (A2) and was able to boot up and install windows, I tried replacing the DIMM that was used earlier to install windows with the other one and I again ran into the same issue of not able to get into BIOS, it keeps rebooting and doesn't get into BIOS, the error codes keep cycling i.e. if i install it in the A2 slot.... if i install it into any other slot I get the error code 55 (memory not installed).

Any help? Am I missing sthing or the other DIMM DOA?

I've absolutely made no changes to BIOS

Noden, I'm not sure if I have explained the problem correctly, using default settings (not made any changes to BIOS) initially, I've added 1 RAM in A2 and the other in B2 as per recommended dual channel instructions on the VI extreme, when I had both RAM's installed the machine does not post, the error code was 55,

To check, I tried a single channel setup, I removed the RAM in B2 slot, it post with one slot filled (A2) and was able to install windows

I shut the pc off and re-installed the RAM in B2 slot and again the error code was 55,

To check single channel again, I removed the (working) RAM from A2 slot and installed the other RAM (previous RAM from B2 slot) the machine kept resetting and was not able to get into BIOS

If I put the (A2 ram in any other slot it works), If I put the RAM from B2 in any slot it just doesn't post at all

In fact I put the 8 GB stick in A2 slot and a 2GB stick in B2 (old one) and it still post and the total ram was correct, 10 GB with default clock of 1333 Mhz.

Is the one in B2 a faulty RAM or should I change sthin else? I dont feel its an issue with the DIMM slots or the CPU cause, I'm able to run it without any issues

Ok now that've read a more detailed description I can say with certainty that the DIMM you are putting in B2 is faulty. You need to RMA the RAM kit 😞

I would suggest that you reseat your CPU. All it takes is for one corner to have had more pressure when mounting your cooler to cause a pin or two to become misaligned and slid off the pad under the CPU.

The other thing you need to do is ensure that there is no contaminate in the PCIe slot.

The sticks will need to be firmly seated too by the way. Just because there is only one latch does not mean you should not hear the double click of the sticks seating in the slot.

Thanks Noden and hivizman, i double checked the socket, i do not have anything on the pcie slot yet, I tested both these RAM's in another machine and 1 stick works, while the other does not allow the machine to post. I've asked for RMA, but they've chosen to refund as they don't have another one in stock

Refund is even better as you can immediately get something else:) I hope your new kit will be working properly:)
