Very Odd random black screen issues

So I have this odd lock up problem with my 990fx, i thought it was my Asus Radeon R9 290 card because it seemed to do it less or more when i messed with the cards graphic settings but then started looking around and seen others with about the same problems. I turned memory settings to manual and got it to a somewhat stable condition. So here is where the oddness comes into play, I can leave it running idle for days, i can play all mainstream games non stop for days (literally I played 5 days of mass effect 3 with pauses of me falling asleep on the keyboard lol), stress test it (with no heating problems) and it will never give me the black screen, but it will randomly black out when I use the web browser, all (explorer, fire fox and chrome), when I use windows media player, mainly when I'm browsing through the library, i played the Microsoft solitary Collection in the win 10 games and (not a lot) when I'm using the file explorer. It might take it 10 secs to happen or a few hours. It does it with windows vista, 7, 8.1 and 10 oddly XP does not do it, runs fine with fedora too all 64bit . It's not a 3rd party app or anything, I have done a clean install and not install anything, with and without main window updates and it still does it. So if anyone can help it be appreciated.

Does it stay black or does it recover?

Hi Tekary

I believe the problem may be the high TDP draw required for this CPU and the FX-9370 @ 5GHz would draw more than the MB can supply at peak demand.
Max supported CPU for this MB is FX-8350 according to support list.

So get a new MB or get that processors lol. K thanks for the info. Is that why I was getting bad scores for my processors. Why does it do it when i use the web browser and fine when i'm playing games

Hi Tekary and my comments are only an opinion, seek others.

If it is possible to exchange either CPU or MB then do that. If not then I would personally upgrade the MB to CVFZ.
I have two systems with CVFZ and the MBs have both been excellent, but that's just me. or you could replace the CPU with an FX-8350 which has a 180W TDP draw. Its your choice. It depends on the binned chip and how lucky you are.
You could try lowering the frequency back to stock and see if that helps to stabalize, but I doubt you would ultimately be satisfied in the back of your mind.
Why it does it in just the web browser and fine in games, I have no idea and maybe someone else can shed light on that.

that is the board I have, ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950

I found this, ASUS Announces Full Support for AMD FX9590 and FX9370 Processors with Existing 990FX-Based Motherboards.

I have not done too much looking but is there any ddr4 amd motherboards, because the intel rig I just made is blowing my amd rig outta the water.

Hi Tekary

My original assessment was based on your original post indicating a non Z MB and edited since.
As you have the CVFZ then the issue is stability.
Clear CMOS and return your system to stock, use D.O.C.P to allow your Bios to determine optimal Frequency and Bus parameters in conjunction with the DIMMs you are using. If you are not on the latest Bios then update using the IO panel and a USB stick to update.
Perform a stress test to determine stability using Realbench whilst monitoring Temps with HWMonitor.
Once you are stable at stock, then you can manually tweak for performance.

Hi Tekary can you please post the exact settings in bios or are you doing fsb or just multiplier. your power supply gold rated . Try disconnecting crossfire and only use one for now and start there and stress test your cpu might not be stable for starters good luck
