USB wierdness

Maximus VI Hero - Win 8.1
Will not boot to BIOS or OS with smart card in usb port (this works on every other machine for years). If I pull smart card after starting will go to BIOS. If I start without smart card it boots normally to OS. This is true for all usb ports.

usb mouse (MS basic) is always detected but often the curser is not visible until after boot to OS when I unplug/replug.

If I plug in usb external drive MAY boot after many minutes. I set boot order correctly with no usb boot.

One MS board will start by hitting space key another won't.

I keep trying BIOS combinations but don't have it figured out. Other usb devices seem to have no affect.

All usb devices work as expected on another pc and none interfere with normal boot to OS.

I was experiencing weirdness with a Razer keyboard. I was sure that something was wrong with my setup. It turns out I did not have the most current firmware revision for my keyboard. I did not even consider there was such a thing. Once I upgraded the firmware...no more issues! It may just be the device is not compatible with your new hardware. If there is a way to upgrade the firmware or drivers for the device in question, try that. Otherwise it may be time for a new device. Just a thought...hope it helps.
