USB 3.0 problems

Maximus 6 extreme. Noticed highly variable transfer rates with usb 3.0. Sometimes data transfers at only 25MB/sec. This is now with windows 8.1. Reenabled xHCI in the bios under Advanced\USB configuration and no change. Downloaded and installed AI Suite 3 USB boost only (Did not install AI Suite 3 totally, just USB boost section), and this made a huge Improvement in transfer rates, now about 150MB/sec, but it varies. Sometimes the transfer rates still dips to 5MB/sec or even less. Just moving large files with various folders from the machine to a USB 3.0 external drive (Fantom 1TB Drive). What am I doing incorrectly?

I have a second drive I sometimes use, eSATA, and it is still as fast as ever.

Transfer rates are dependant on the files itself, not on everything you will reach what your storage device is capable, usually small files take a lot longer.

That said, in my experience eSata is still faster than USB3, but this is with external hdds and docking stations, now there are USB3 flash drives that can reach above 400mb/s, so really depends on a lot of things.

Btw what USB3 drivers are you using? intel released new ones for windows 7 like a week ago, not sure if there are new ones for windows 8.1.

What are you source and destination?

That's part of my problem. I can't find the correct driver right now. I went to both Asus and Station Drivers, but the USB 3 driver at SD is not compatible with Windows 8.1. ??

Im not sure there will be one, according to intel web,

Windows 8* has a native in-box USB 3.0 driver. Intel is not releasing a specific Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for Windows 8.
But not sure if this applies to 8.1.

Yea, I wondered about that. There may be native support in the OS. The AI suite USB boost made a big difference, but I still prefer my old eSATA connection. It is the fastest I have used. Thanks for your help.
