I'm updating my presently version 1004 BIOS on my Maximus IV Extreme-Z using the formatted memory stick/ROG Connect port method (not aware of any easier way to do this) and it went off without a hitch on my last few updates.
But when I try to make the step up to 3203 in order to gain access to my PCIe 3.0 and potentially Ivy Bridge functionality (budget allowing!) I'm met with a temporarily bricked board. It begins to boot, but it gets hung on 72 (PCH Device Intialization) and will not go any further in the boot process.
Has anyone else experience this issue?
Is there any other special steps you must take in order to upgrade to 3203?
This could well be operator error - I'm fairly new to all this overclocking (though I do have a nice stable air cooled 5.0 ghz i7 2600k) and the UEFI BIOS has so many bells and whistles it makes my head spin.
If it's a continued issue, I may just wait until a newer revision comes out and just deal with the lower PCIe 2.0 bandwidth. From what I can see, even the current gen of PCIe 3.0 cards scarcely take advantage of the added headroom, and my games and work all run beautifully as is.
