UEFI (RSt) install and USB

If I install Windows in UEFI only or both UEFI and Legacy-anything but Legacy only in the BIOS-none of my USB 2 or USB 3 drives will install correctly in Windows except for Headset, keyboard and mouse (they operate fine)-regardless of which BIOS I use. (tried with 4206, 4804)
The drives appear and disappear in Windows Explorer-repetitively and instantaneously-not stopping until I remove the USB 2 or 3 drive and only when I install in UEFI mode-legacy no problem.

None of these drives will install and be useable:

Silverstone SuperSpeed USB 3 HD enclosure (populated with WD VelociRaptor 600G)
Patriot XLT USB 2 Memory Stick
2*Kingston DataTraveller 3 Memory Sticks
2*Kingston DataTraveller 2 Memory Sticks
Kingston DT 101 G2 USB 2 Memory Stick

Device manager states Device not installed correctly-no errors in event viewer, after a fresh installation of Windows I plug in any of my USB drives, the device installing progress bar completes, but, when I open Windows Explorer to view the USB drive it is disappearing/reappearing-like flashing on/off-continuosly until I remove the drive.

The drive icon is absent from the taskbar and in Devices and Printers the USB drive will show up with an exclamation mark. I cannot use it at all and nothing I do will changem this behaviour unless I wipe the partition and reinstall Windows with CSM set to Legacy mode only.

I can plug in as many USB 2 or 3 drives as the board will handle when installed in Legacy mode without any problems whatsoever and do anything I want with them even simultaneously.

Any ideas........?

Thanks.

Check the firmware for the AsMedia USB 3.0 controller has been updated.

The link to the firmware is listed under utilities in the Windows 7 download section for your particular motherboard.

This specifically mentions improved USB 3.0 support under Windows 8

Thanks for the reply 🙂 It's the latest-I checked that when I was still running Windows 7-that's not the problem although USB 3 speeds never do approach theoretical-my superspeed 600G WD VelociRaptor in a USB 3 drive holder never reaches more than approx. 30 Mb/sec. It is none of the USB drives-2 or 3-will install correctly. The drives appear and disappear in Windows Explorer-repetitively and instantaneously-not stopping until I remove the USB 2 or 3 device and only when I install in UEFI mode-legacy no problem.

ASUS support feels the BIOS chips may be at fault, possible RMA. The support person said the BIOS engineers would be contacted just to touch base because I find it hard to believe I have two faulty BIOS chips. The concern does tend to point to a BIOS problem though-but, is it software or hardware.

Update: I redownloaded BIOS 4804 and reflashed the BIOS, set it up the way I like it and all is good now-corrupt BIOS I guess. The only device that will not install correctly is my GPS-for updates/battery charging, but, it installs fine when CSM set to Legacy only. Guess I'll have to live with it.
