TurboV EVO + Crosshair V question

So the idea is that I want max performance when needed, and as little power consumption as possible in all other situations.

For my daily browsing etc. and looking at -most of the time ridiculous- emails I really don't need that hot-head FX-8350 of mine be pushing.

On the other hand, when I want to hit the games or do some video transcoding, I need every bit of performance it can throw at me.

I was looking towards TurboV EVO. If I set my max OC profile in my BIOS, I'm able to "tune down" everything through TurboV. The other way around doesn't work. But that's not much of a problem.

Now looking at TurboV; there seems to be no auto-load-profile kind of functionality there. But a quick search on the net reveals that the previous Crosshair board (mark IV) came with TurboV software that does offer a hotkey solution to apply profiles. Why does the newer TurboV lack this option ?

Thx in advance

Same yourself the trouble and please overclock in the bios and uninstall/remove/delete that as suite bloatware. If software is your thing this will do what your looking for -> http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/amd-overdrive/Pages/overview.aspx

Not talking about overclocking here, only need an option to apply profiles from within Windows. Overclock is done in BIOS as I said and then down-tuned in Windows. Need an option to do that down-tune or restore settigns from profiles or hotkeys.

Ow, btw: AMD Overdrive suite indeed looks promising ! Thx for the headsup !

Dammit: almost had THE perfect solution : K10stat

Turns out it doesn't work on FX-8 series ... crap

Hello mate

As far as I know there is no way to save a bios OC profile and activate said BIOS profile in OS. if you find out how to do it please let me know.

Hi chap 🙂

No, don't want to activate BIOS profiles. I just need a way to increase/decrease cpu clock frequency and voltages through a profiles-based piece of software.

Seems that doesn't exist for FX series cpu's. AMD Overdrive supposedly has this feature, but it's confirmed not working.

*UPDATE*

I found a solution: "amdmsrtweaker" . This very basic piece of software is able to modify VCore & Ratios through a simple command line, that can be placed into a batch file for instance. Works great ! With some clever BIOS managing you could even let it dynamically boost both Ratio & VCore depending on application needs, very similar to AMD's Turbo Boost feature.

For now, I have simply created a batch file executed during each boot to set clocks to 2.1Ghz @ 0.9VCore (still have to see if I can lower that a bit more). Another batch file I simply need to click and run to instantly boost to my 4.67Ghz overclock on all cores.

Furthermore, in BIOS I have set my 4.67Ghz OC profile active. This means that I get razor-fast boot times, once booted it drops again to 2.1Ghz due to the batch file, which is more than enough for browsing, email, downloading, watching movies, etc etc. If need, all I need to do is click the other batch file and presto: full power again !

This is going to extend my CPU's lifetime significantly AND keeps the room from heating up HAHA 😄
