TUF 5 Year Warranty Sabertooth 990FX Questions

I am curious how well this Warranty is and if people found it helpful for any issues they may have had. I might need to try and use it.

My issues are that I have seen some strange happening over the last year with my Sabertooth 990FX revision 1 mobo. Things like USB Ports failing, having 16GB of RAM causing issues, random reboots once and a while even on Fresh OS Installs. Even an extra Drive might not be detected once in a blue moon. Yet the system still runs alright for the most part as it will bootup and surf the web as well as run regular software. It is just some odd things that I have noticed every once and a while and when it tries to run more heavy software like games and such.

The USB Ports is the main thing. Even with updated Drivers they have caused funny issues with my Devices and OS. I still to this day can not boot up while having my Blue Yeti mic plugged in.

On the issues from the 16GB of RAM.
I had some G.Skill Sniper RAM in there originally, and after a while my system starting to have major issues. Mostly with trying to play games and some other heavy programs. So I bought new RAM thinking that it went bad. Well I now have 16GB of Mushkin Redline and I am again facing issues with it. For example BF4 is not able to play when I have 16GB of ram in it. It will only play with 8GB. I tested the RAM and each stick is fine, and it is fine no matter what pairs of sticks I have or if I have all of them in. They all passed memtest multiple times. Also, back to the G.Skill Sniper RAM. They also Pass all memtest now and works great in my other system. So I am starting to think that maybe the issue is the Mobo and not RAM. Maybe a DIMM Slot or something is affecting it.

Anyways I am wondering how well the Warranty works. Would it be possible to send the Mobo in to be looked at and tested? Does it work that way?

I do have the latest BIOS Update, and all my drivers are up to date. I also have Windows 8.1 up to date, but I have seen issues in (Windows 7) to (Windows 8.1).

I am just at a loss for some of the issues I have seen and I am starting to fear that it is my Mobo. I do not really stress it out much as I hardly OC at all. I have tested the BIOS A.I. Tweaker before a while back but I usually just use Default settings and just manually set my timings for my RAM.

OH, I also do not install the ASUS AI Suite. Every time I do I tend to see more issue, even when I do not touch anything in it.

So any thought?
Should I try to look into the Warranty and see if they can check it out, or is their something else that would come to mind?

Have you manually set the ram timings in the uefi ? Is it a issue in Windows or are your issue's occurring all the time ? After installing uefi updates, have you loaded optimized defaults in the uefi and then reset the ram timings and saved it ?

I have manually set my timings and also used defaults.

I do not think the USB issues is do to Windows. Those issues were present when I used Windows 7 and all through Windows 8 up to now. Certain things I use just do not seem to work well with the mobo. I know some are none driver support for Windows 8, but still I had issues in Windows 7 as well and some do have support for Windows 8.
Also in the Device Manager the USB stuff fail from time to time, but only when things are plugged into them. Usually I can fix those fails by reinstalling their latest drivers again. So I have tried drivers updating drivers for the USB Controllers and the devices plugged into them. The Blue Yeti Mic though does not have a driver but it uses the driver supplied by Windows. I have pretty much given up on that Mic for this PC.

Some of the issues were before my UEFI updates and still present after. I am currently running BIOS 1604 which is the latest for my Mobo.

I have set the optimized defaults and then setup my timings. That is in fact what I am working with right now. The memory issues only seem to be when I have all four sticks of RAM installed. They do not show up when using just two sticks. I currently have two stick of 4GB installed. Also when I do have all four sticks installed for 16GB of RAM, the issues only occur when trying to run programs that use heavy resources like Games or doing some rendering in things 3D programs. Right now I only have games installed since my last OS Install. This was with both brands but did not happen right away. It happens once and a while and just got worse little by little.

Could the Power Supply cause this sort of stuff?
The Power Supply does not seem to show any issues but I do wonder about it since I am not certain of the causes.
I might try anotherone I have sitting here just to see how it does.

The Mobo itself does not show any physical issues. It pretty much looks like it did when it was new. The temps are all good for things as well.

Currently right now the games and things work alright, aside from my Keyboard going wacky lately. That might just be an issue with Razer's Synapse software or dirty keys. Not sure how long the system will be working fine. Just as long as I do not plug in that Blue yeti and install my other sticks of RAM. 🙂

Anyways I am at a loss. I could just be worrying to much, but these little things do bother me. I would like to use more USB devices and all my RAM. If I could find a way to do that without having strange things happen I am all for it. 🙂

This will sound crazy, but it's a known Windows 8.1 issue. When you upgraded to 8.1 did you just have the ssd that Windows is on plugged in and the other ssd and h.d.d. unplugged ? I left my 3 tb. drive plugged in during the 8 to 8.1 upgrade and it screwed thing's up bad. I unhooked it and clean installed 8, downloaded Windows Media Center, ran Windows Update until none were found, then I got 8.1 from Windows Store. After it was installed, I ran Windows Update in it until none were found. I then updated the pre-installed Modern app's (done through the store/settings charm, app updates) and then I restarted the pc turned it off and plugged the 3tb. h.d.d. back in, started the pc and pointed 8.1 to my files. Also, here's one that may help you too. I know you have a Rev. 1, I've got a Rev. 2. Asus put up a new uefi last week 32103. That very well may work on your's. Their can't be that much difference between the Rev 1 and Rev. 2 uefi's

Is your system OC at all? And if yes how and what are your OC settings?

No I really do not OC the CPU. It is on the BIOS Defaults at the moment.
Although I did turn off the Cool N' Quit.

Actually Yes I did remove all my other Drives for when I Installed Windows. I think I found that out in these forums two post down when I made a thread solely on USB device and trying to get my Mic to work.

I'll look and see if my Rev has that Update and or if the Rev 2 will work. Not sure if it will, though. A new Rev usually comes with hardware changes, be it small differences. The circuits and stuff may not be rated for some of the changes in BIOS for other Rev's. But I'll look and see anyways just encase. Any improvements would be better than none. 🙂

A lot of what you are describing would be located on the CPU too. Many of the function are on die, memory controller, USB controller and so on.

Is your system OC at all? And if yes how and what are your OC settings?
