Too much voltage makes CPU unstable? - Maximus VI Extreme

Hi there,

I have a 4770K with a maximus VI extreme. Been having fun overclocking the cpu. Got it stable to 4.7 GHZ with 1.264V with IBT.

However when I increase my vcore to 1.3 V or greater, the computer locks up while it was stable at 1.264V. More volts = less stable??? Has anyone else encountered this phenomenon?

I also increased VCCIN (input and actual to cpu) up to 2.0 V - no effect on increasing CPU stability with higher Vcores....

Temperatures are very good. Delidded the cpu so running at 70 C max with IBT.

I am puzzled.

More volts = more heat. That is all it really could be.

But like I hosted, my 4770K is delidded and runs at 70 C with intel burn test.

But does it run at 70'C with the voltage you have listed?

When you increase the voltage what are your temps? And how are you measuring your temps? Oh and how are you increasing your temps, in OS or via bios? Do you increase your multi at the same time or not?

I am increasing the voltage via bios and OS, both with the same results. I measured the temperature with AI suite and core temp with my overclock state...each time temps not over 70 C. I have custom watercooling with a 420 mm and a 360 mm radiator and an xspc raystorm. The CPU is also delidded and has liquid metal between die and intel heat sink.

I dont understand your comment about increasing multi at same time or not? After I got it stable at 4.7 ghz, I only increased the voltage. Not multiplier.

what kind of lock, bsod?

Most of time its BSOD...not the usual 101 or 124 errors for cpu voltage. Random ones like 3B...

i tried enabling and disabling c-state, same issue both ways.
