The next big Rampage?

I have assumed that it would be an x79 REIV,
But Now Ivy seems to be right around the corner.

Really compared to the bench's I have seen so far...
Nothing seems to even come close to leaving an i7-980/990x RE3 in the dust yet.
At ROG prices I am hoping Ivy brings enuff distance in peformance.

Are there any announced plans for the next Rampage Extreme yet?

That board has a Socket 2011 + a Socket 1366, as well as the ram configuration for each.

That is pretty interesting.

Concept motherboard: Danshui Bay (pronounced Dan Shway Bay). It combines LGA1366 and future LGA2011 platforms on a single motherboard.

When is the last time you saw a ROG board with that much empty real estate?
This is a two cpu tease. Strictly a prop for things to come.
My favorite thing is the GOD Bless Japan w/ ROG Logo stamped on the corner...
..and Please, don't stop there.

As silly as this sounds, I would love to see an ROG take on a dual socket Opteron board. This proposes an interesting topic for debate: What would the ROG brand bring to server technology if they decided to develop it? Off hand I cannot think of how one could "ROG" a server board, but I would be interested in what the community could think up. All fun and speculation of course.

I don't think there is such a disconnect between the enthusiast and server board teams. They both have the ability to have any of the features from the other but they don't because that's not what the target market is looking for. The product lines are all about the demographics. Something under the title of Republic of _Gamers_ wouldn't sell well in the business market because they would (understandably) assume that they weren't the target market based on the gamer name. And in practical terms they have little need for overclocking, high end audio, etc. Now, if you mean bringing more server board features to us enthusiasts? Absolutely. I have wanted a dual socket board that could overclock for quite some time.

I know all about the target markets, I am just interested in what the musings of an ROG server board would entail in theory. This of course by extension includes adding server board features to a consumer/enthusiast product in a way.

That said, if you ignore target markets entirely and treat ROG as a philosophy rather than a brand, I am interested in what a server board would look like if designed using said philosophy. I think that more clearly articulates what I mean.
Just because ROG features aren't marketable on an enterprise product, that doesn't make the concept any less awesome in my eyes. 🙂

OK, that I understand. I guess I'm still not sure what all that would entail though. What would such a product look like?

I am not sure what it would look like either. Step one: invent a market for the product.

I am going to have to grab some scotch and sit in the wing-back chair for a few hours on this one.

When the next generation of consoles are delivered and a new generation who can film full HD on their phones and take care of 90 percent of their needs with their portable devices.

ROG could still easily stand for Rebublic of Graphic artists. As long as an animation with full global illumination beauty renders require multiple processors and multiple days. You have a market that is not going anywhere.

Most Cg types that build their own used dual socket motherboards long before the dual cores appeared.
( I myself never built a box without at least two sockets before the dual cores appeared )

When gamers ridicule the need for anything over 4 cores a rendering fool is never sated. as many threads as possible pleeeeeze.

I think what is needed for my corner of the world is for reviews to ditch cinebench for a kick ass maya animation render that takes a month to complete.
Then let the benchmark shootouts tell me that 6 cores is overblown.

Afterall when the gamers are on their next gen 2.0 consoles and iphone 5... server types and cg production types will be the only ones left reading the reviews.
