Stuck on Q-code 98 with my Impact board

My Maximus Impact Vi board was beginning to get stuck on boot when the Q-code hit 98.. This seemed to happen more and more, but usually if i removed power completely for 10 seconds i could get it to boot.. And once it was booted i have had no problems at all.. No bsod's or anything that could indicate a hardware fault.

But then today, im unable to get it booting at all.. I simply cant get past this q-code 98, which refers to "Console Input devices connect".

The first thing i've tried is to unplug everything, but no change..
Then i've tried resetting the bios.. No change..
I've then tried the MemOK! button, which reboots the computer serveral times, and the MemOK! Led flashes in four different speeds, but it gets stuck same place everytime.
I noticed that the 4 leds between the main atx power connector, and the dimm slot, turns the CPU Led on, and then the DRAM led turns on, right after the CPU led turns off.. After this the DRAM led turns off, and the system halts, with the Q-code display showing 98

What can i do?

Hello djda91

You could try clearing the cmos with the button on the back, it's the one with the green circular arrow. Power off your pc and hold the clear cmos button for 3 seconds and try booting.

If that doesn't help try updating or reflashing the bios, here's a guide you can follow.

Let us know if either gets you going.

I have the same issue but clearing cmos didn’t work for me. Neither does bios flash

Thanks for the assistance, what you provided did the trick!

Any idea why something like what i've experienced have happened in the first place?

You're welcome

Well if updating the bios solved it I would suspect your bios somehow got corrupted. Who knows how it happened but lightning strikes, a power outage or brown outs can cause it.
