Strange problems

Hi guys,

I'm having weird problems with my pc, let me start with specs,

R4E, 3960X, G.Skill 2133C9, Seasonic 1250W, 3x GTX 480.

1- First problem is that after my computer shuts down the mouse will turn on by it self, just the mouse, I'm using Logitech G9, the mouse DPI leds will go on and you can adjust the DPI, I mean you can press +/- buttons on the mouse and you will see the DPI indicator goes up and down as in the windows but it's only the mouse that's powered on.

2- I have the R4E since the SB-E launch and it's the best board I ever had, but since last night something weird happened I'm not sure if it's the board or the PSU, everything was normal I made a proper shutdown but when I came back to turn PC on it didn't want to turn on, the led lights were on but the Start button didn't work, turned the PSU off and on and it worked, but since then every time I shut my pc and try to power it on I have to turn the PSU on or off or take the 24Pin out and blug it again, I also noticed when I first encountered this issue that while I was pressing the I/O button or taking the cable out (on the psu) the board will turn on for a moment and then shuts down, as if there is an electric short or something.

Could someone help me plz, thanks a lot for your help in advance :).

Best Regards,
Samer.

I guess best thing to do would be to give everything a careful visual inspection see if there is some damage to components etc. and the obvious thing is to try a different PSU if that is possible.

How old is your PSU and if possible I would take your PSU in to be tested, or swap out with an different one.

#1 post, can it be that your mouse is connected to a usb3 port?
it can be that its sending out power to it , since you can charge a phone or other usb things whit it.

Thx for the replys, the PSU is ~3 months old, and the mouse is connected to a USB 2.0 port.

Stupid idea, this all started after I took the CPU water block to check if there is enough thermal paste, could be turned to be conductive? Is that even possible? I'm using MX-2 since day one, may be if someone says this could be it I can change it with MX-4 or Noctua NT-H1.

I prefer MX2 over most other TM types.

Did you drop, spill or mess TM over your board when you were playing with the CPU block? And did you tighten the CPU block in the correct pattern?

No tim was on the CPU only, and yes I did tighten the block in the correct pattern

Remove the CPU from the socket and inspect the pins, if you are not sure take high res images from different angles that is the best way to see if a pin is misaligned.

Did the CPU boot immediately after you had reseated it?

I didn't take the CPU off, only the water block?

For the mouse issue read this thread....sounds like it might be same: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?22269-Can-I-not-turn-off-USB2-power-when-the-PC-is-off

When you removed the waterblock did you disconnect 8pin ATX or anything else RAM etc....just double check everything is back in place....also check the block is not over tightened or as HiVizMan suggests that it is evenly tightened. Uneven pressure on the CPU can give weird results.
