STOP 0xf4 BSOD during first boot

Hi all,

When starting up my system after it's been off for a few hours I get a BSOD 9 out of 10 times.
It's the STOP code 0xf4 (parameter1: 000003)

When I reboot after that it usually boots and operates normally. Sometimes it BSOD's again with the same error.

I have run memtest for a few passes over my memory and no errors were found.
It happens with a clean win 7 Ultimate installation after all the updates.

Now I am suspecting it is my SSD that is the problem. But before I go out and buy a new one I'd like to see if you fine people have more ideas on a possible fix.

My specs:
Maximus VI Hero (Bios: 0903)
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770
SSD: OCZ Vertex 3 (fw: 2.50)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Memory: Crucial 8GB

The SSD is in AHCI mode with hot pluggable enabled.

Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

can you flash your bios back to 0804 and see if the problem is over

That is good advice, there have been a few reported user issues with the later bios. These have been reported up the chain.

Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. 😞

The two errors you are getting I have seen with Daemon tools as the cause due to the way it works with the hard drive controllers, but that is why I asked you about what software you had installed and you said nothing about daemon tools.

Not sure that the board is the cause you see, else I would suggest you RMA it.

Please post a minidump of the BSOD so I can tell you what's wrong.

Hi Quercus,

In addition to what Nodens said, you can try disabling "Aggressive LPM Support" in SATA Configuration.

I've had similar issues with Crucial m4 ssd, caused by that setting in Auto or Enabled.

Good luck

0xf4 means a critical Windows process or thread is dying. Minidump will let me know which one it is (and possibly how it died) so we can stir you to the right direction:) This is most likely something OS related.

The Vertex 3 with v2.50 firmware requires Aggressive LPM Support to be disabled and hot plug enabled for the port the drive is connected to.

Thank you for the help so far.

I disabled aggressive LPM Support. Unfortunately it didn't work.

I installed an Samsung 840 EVO SSD, and completely reinstalled windows. I forgot about Daemon tools, that came with the CD.
Completely uninstalled it and removed all traces.

Here's the dump from the event viewer. If you need the file, let me know I'll zip it and upload it.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000f4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xfffffa8009519850, 0xfffffa8009519b30, 0xfffff800031cd7b0). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\Minidump\112613-7004-01.dmp. Report Id: 112613-7004-01.

Yes. I need the actual file so I can examine it with kernel debugger.
