Start up, and wake issues.

I have had this problem for about a couple weeks now. If I put my PC to sleep and then try and wake it up it fails and tries three times always on the third try it starts.

It's as if it were increasing the voltage each time by a bit and the third time starts every time.

I did have a overclock plus I over clocked my ram. My ram Kingston 1600 2x8 GB only had timing differences in the XMP but I also increased the clock from 1600 1866 and it ran great. I disabled the ram OC and it seemed to help for a day or two.

I tried clearing the CMOS and it seemed to help for a day or two. I Also removed my overclock at start up it seemed to help but it's doing it again. I put my PC to sleep or it falls a sleep and when I go to wake it the process starts again.

It always boot's on the third attempt every time. I now will have to disable sleep completely.

I originally thought it was my optical drive as at start up it made a little noise when it started and failed so I unplugged it and it also helped for a few days but then returned.

The last thing I am going to try it totally remove the overclock, I still have my CPU overclocked but only after windows starts.

I did have four items I believe connected on one daisy chain SATA power Cord I believe consisting of 2x SSD's 1x HD, optical drive.

I believe they are all on one cable but I'm not 100% sure. I'll have to double check that but have since unplugged the optical drive and it did seem to help as did other things that I did.

Anyone else experience this?

This started happening one year after buying this equipment almost to the day! It possibly did start on the day, I am not sure I didn't record it lol.

I just cleared the CMOS and left everything Auto no overclock. Only disabled the CPU fan monitoring as you have to do with Corsair H80i pugged into the CPU aux fan header.

It started fine originally to get into the BIOS after clearing restarting twice as it does not three times.

I just put it to sleep and it woke up just fine.

Does this mean if it stays like this that I might not be able to run full time oc?

I'll have to use AI suite 3 to OC if I want to game with oc settings.

I am not going to touch anything and see if it happens again. It either happens at start up or wake up and don't have any problems while using it.

EDIT: Still working great just started from sleep again with no issue.

EDIT next day: It worked great for 24 hours and woke up from sleep several maybe 10 times but today it happened again with no overclock. It always seems to last 24 hours then starts again.

I re installed 1603 this time through the BIOS updater as last time I used the USB flashback method.

I'm hopping it was a corruption in the BIOS, I'm back on 1603 with my previous overclock of 43x43 with XMP at 1600Mhz and I'll see how it goes.

EDIT: first time I put it to sleep it happened again!

Assus must know what is going on as it always takes three times each one with more voltage it would seem. They must know what is going on as it's always three attempts it must mean something.

This is always happening when I try and wake it from sleep it starts on third attempt, it cold boots fine every time. I don't know what could be causing this.

well it doesn't look like you've had much support on this, but i may be experiencing something similar, although not the same, myself.

If i put the pc to sleep and leave it more than a few minutes, it won't wake back up

If i switch the PC off (using shut down from windows) it won't always turn back on. Sometimes it will turn on 5-10 seconds after pushing the button, sometimes the 4th or 5th time i push the button, and sometimes it will only turn on if i pull the power cord out of the PSU and put it back in again.

The same with WoL, sometimes it will work 1st time, sometimes after several attempts, and sometimes not at all.

if i make a change in the bios and select the save changes and reset option, it will power down and not turn back on again unless i pull the power cord.

Hi Marcd,

I now just turn it off and don't use sleep anymore it starts first time every time.

Last week I removed my opticle drive and it was working again and it would make up first time but after a few days it went back to the old ways, so now I just turn the PC off, I don't have any problem turning it on just waking it up. I just thought how it always started on the third attempt when waking up from sleep that it might be something obvious.

Your problem is different indeed, I don't have a fix for yours.

It was working for the last 2 weeks straight, woke up every time perfectly but now this issue has returned. Why?

I think I fixed it!

After thinking what it could be I realised it possibly was a CPU C States settings.

After changing the CPU C States from [Auto] to [Enabled] it wakes up from sleep every time now. It's been working for just over a week now 🙂

The setting in the BIOS is under:

CPU Power Management Configuration

CPU C States [Enable] it was on auto.
